There are some scenarios I haven't actually played through. Please let me know if you spot any errors or if you have a bugfix for Taiwan!
"scenario ends year..." means that the scenario can't be completed any earlier than the specified date making them not very interesting to speedrun.
There are several scenarios that could be split into multiple categories naturally. An ideal example is Another Fish in the Sea. I can make a separate post about this and other scenarios that could have multiple categories if desired.
The manual for Tropico 1 in PDF format can be found easily and it's worth reading.
If you're struggling with any mechanic you can review what the manual has to say about it.
Change these settings to improve your speedrun:
- disable annual almanac
- disable setup videos
- disable clouds
Game Modfiers can have a big impact on the way that scenarios play out, if you want to speedrun a scenario you should check the modifiers.

The "explanation" part of this post begins with your questions about any scenario objectives you need explained.
I ran into this by accident trying to find a new way to optimize my run for Back to the Skies. I have no idea if this was known before. I also don't know of any other bugs/exploits/glitches that might be relevant to speedrunning.
If you bulldoze the logging camp in this scenario while paused and then cancel that bulldoze you will gain $5
If you can execute this 50 times and fast enough you can build a Hotel ($4750) instead of a Cheap Hotel ($3000) as your starter and potentially save time over the Cheap Hotel strategy.
Here is some advice for optimizing the process:
- hotkey the logging camp (shift+(0-9) to set a hotkey and the number itself to use the hotkey)
- zoom the camera in fully, this prevents you from accidentally clicking on "La Plata" and reduces the amount of mouse movement required
The loop you want to run is as follows:
- build mode (select bulldoze the first time, only need to do this once)
- bulldoze the logging camp
- press logging camp hotkey
- cancel bulldoze order
- repeat
build mode, bulldoze, hotkey, cancel and repeat.
I struggled to do this in under 60s but I believe it's humanly possible to get it down under 30s. I don't know if it's actually fast enough to save time vs the Cheap Hotel strategy.
*in case this matters, the game version I use is "Tropico Reloaded" installed from a disc. I don't use Steam so I don't know if that version is different.
