Emulator category?

I'd like to see this happen too. I'm not sure why there couldn't be a emulator only category like other games do tbh. It definitely lowers the barrier into running this game.

Hey guys, I highly suggest reading Obiyo's comment here: https://www.speedrun.com/dkr/thread/94cb1

While an emulator board would create less of a barrier to entry, mods would need to mandate what emulator people are allowed to play on, which is very difficult to verify. N64 runs are very clearly N64 runs because of the massive difference in lag and visuals.

That said, there's no reason you can't still speedrun DKR on emu without submitting to a leaderboard. Emu is still a good way for beginners to learn mechanics, technique, and tricks.

I'm highly interested in running this but I only have access to emulator as well, and without times to compare or anything of that nature it feels somewhat pointless to run. I would really love to see an emulator category as well.

I'm also no expert to how emulation works, but wouldn't the difference in the end not be drastic enough to have to mandate which emulators are used? Again, I'm no expert but it seems like the differences would be extremely slim. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'd just love to have some fun competition with this game.

If the Diddy Kong Racing console community doesn't want to share space with emulator runners, an alternate solution would be to game request a new board that would house all the emu runs. At that point, the DKR emu community could be left to govern itself and vet its own runs without putting any unwanted pressure on the console runners.

I would really like an Emulator category aswell. I totally understand why emulators are not allowed but that could be solved by creating an emulator 100% and emulator any% category.

As a DKR runner, I support an emulator category as a separate board. However they must be separate, as from my experience from both, they are completely different games. No lag completely changes this game, it doesn't feel the same and if you adapt to emulator, you are at an extreme advantage if both console and emulator are on the same board. I support emulator as a means to get into the game, as it was how I got into videogames and speedrunning.

requesting a new board is totally off the table, unless you really wanted to convince the mods on this, I tried to do this when emulator was banned as I started running on emulator and also was still running on emulator when it was banned, and as a player who switched, emu really gave me and understanding of the mechanics and there is nothing stopping you with starting a leaderboard of your own on a spreadsheet somewhere, but this really can get messy.

In the same vein that there's nothing stopping us from making a spreadsheet leaderboard, there's also nothing stopping us from making an emulator-only leaderboard on Speedrun.com. The difference between the two is that the latter is much more convenient, quicker to set up, and it's what people are asking for.

It's been a year since the first post in this thread and none of the current moderators have participated in the discussion. I'd take that to mean they're not interested and a new game request for a DKR emu board would be the next logical step.

Hello hello,

It's very exciting to have completed the fourth tutorial video of 2024, our first ever Plane tutorial. While many different demonstration and tutorial videos have been made for a wide variety of DKR techniques and strategies, I think this is the first video made that is fully dedicated
