Desmume Magnification Filter

I was wondering if there were any rules regarding the use of filters. I've been messing around with them trying to get my streams to look a bit better.

Can't believe I just noticed this post. Sorry about that Kitaro. I've never messed with any filters in the emulator before. It is preferred that the emulator isn't configured past what is necessary to run the game and capture it. As long as it doesn't affect loading times or cut off any of the game screen, it should be fine. I will have to get in there and experiment with this filter and ask the other mods if they know anything about it.

Heya Clix, no worries at all. I finally got around to messing with things since my computer crash. I disabled the magnification filters today and with very limited testing, it seemed to lower my splits by a good margin. I was 30-45 seconds faster halfway through the run even with various mistakes. Can't say with 100% certainty, but I'll definitely be playing without the filters moving forward.

I'll try to gather more run data moving forward to verify this, but just thought I'd pop in my initial findings.

I can confirm that the filters have no effect on gameplay, all they do is make the game look better or worse, those 30-45 seconds must be from the fact that you've gotten better

Hey Gragons, thanks for the additional info. Just wondering how you did your testing. I've been timing various things such as the cutscenes and it seems that you are likely correct that the filters do not have an effect on the gameplay/time.

Edit: You're right, it was better play where I had saw the split differences. I was just watching my old video with the latest recording I have that has mistakes I didn't remember making.

Watching both videos I am seeing what looks like some slowdowns in frame rate in different areas, but that may nothing THAT drastic.

I've tas'd this game and messed around with magnification filters, if they made any difference the tas would've de-synced but I found that no matter what the magnification filter changed nothing

That's great news, really appreciate you letting us know! Now I can adjust my settings around again to make things look just a little nicer lol
