Coal% the goal is to get a coal power plant as fast a possible rules only one player run ends when coal power plant is opperational use of skip intro box is not allowed
It's a novel concept! But hard to define as a separate category. For example: what does "operational" mean? You can unlock Coal Power, build one generator and water extractor, and have a functioning plant without changing anything from the current Package% route. Defining a goal based on what a factory contains is pretty subjective and difficult to make a good rule set for.
That being said, I do "Coal%" informally to practice for 3 and 4 package runs, and it's a great (and fun) way to keep track of how well you can move into the steel phase of the game. But IMO it's not a good category on its own, because the end goal is too subjective.
Yeah, that's where it becomes an issue :) I consider my coal "done" at 8 generators, but an energy-producing factory only needs 1. The goal highly depends on what the power is for, but in the event of a speedrun there is nothing past the ending time. I could hand-place 1 piece of coal into X generators and it would be complete once they all begin burning, or simply satisfy some other requirement on a technicality. Again, not to say this isn't worth using as a split or indication towards another run, but on its own there are a lot of extra stipulations you have to make that reduce the fun of the run.
what about slug% where you get all the slugs same rules as the first one but you also have to get all the slugs and you dont need to get the coal
How do you know you've achieved it when you stand to evaluate it? Do you get the message "You collected all the slugs! Congratulations!"? How do you know you're missing just one? I think it is very difficult.
There's really no reason to make categories beyond major gameplay checkpoints. Everything else is just arbitrary.
well something like slug% or also 100% (4package% + all slugs + spheres and sloops + all milestones + all harddrives) would be possible. after you stopped the timer you have to show the amount of these items you have. but therefor you need to know the exact amount of all of them and espacially slugs could be tricky cause you can get them by doggos. on another board we add new categories if there are people running it. if something works and also makes fun (or not) is difficult to say without having tried it in a run.
A slug% we were playing around with the other day (pretty fun to route) was one blue, one yellow, one purple slug. Again, only worth making a category for once people are actually running it like Ariuna said :) but it's a novel concept
