I'm new to the speedrunning scene and starting yesterday I've been practicing to do my first ever speedrun. In my practicing, I've found a way to shave some time off in a particular location by closing the game and re-opening it. This would make it so I don't have to sit through unnecessary cutscenes after getting the bios I need.
However, I wanted to make an account ahead of time so I could ask if this was allowed. While closing the game does save time, I don't want to get comfortable doing so until I know that it's okay to do so.
Hi. I believe you are talking about the refresh glitch.
It was discovered a while ago but hasn't been used in real runs yet. This is because the mods have yet to decide whether they will accept the glitch into runs.
Also, if you would mention some examples of where the strat can be used that would also be helpful.
(Note: closing the game then reopening it isn't the issue, runs have been accepted where their games crashed mid-game. The problem is the glitch used.)
I was not aware that there was a refresh glitch until now. I was talking about just closing and reopening the game normally.
The run I've been practicing for is an All Bios PU run. I've put together optimal routes for BtB, EtP, and StD so far, and I'm working out a route for ItA. (Progress on ItA is mostly done, aside from a few last-minute optimizations.)
The only place I have the strat currently planned for StD. In the route I've worked out, the final bios to obtain for StD are Clyde Jenkins and Corporal Bill Bullet. If you don't close and restart the game, you have to sit through their conversation and then select a fail, because this select screen doesn't let you access the main menu. By closing the game as soon as you get the final bio, this is skipped and replaced with a much more brief game opening sequence.
The route I have planned for EtP-ItA is different from the other run in this category that I can't go into much more detail, but I hope this explains the gist of what my goal with this is.

Coincidentally, I am also routing an all bios PU run and is also done with everything until StD. I also have a 2:57 run of StD bios with the strat you mentioned and none of the mods have yet to tell me I can't use it so I think its fine.

RBH+: Free Man last bio (24 seconds) Capital Gains last bio (23seconds ?) (MBH route) Rewire (100% do it) MBH end (30 seconds)
RPE+: Jojo scene (100% do it)
