I'd recommend watching an earlier run from the current WR holder. It's easier to watch than to explain the glitch. Like this video:

Well I noticed that I can't drop out in single player to get the quick reset. idk if thats just me or there is something wrong with the game.

You are not alone, I also have this problem. I have yet to find a solution. This is why I run Low% right now. Out of curiosity, do you use a controller? I do not.

I use keyboard although if you are good at mashing, controller is best for climbing up ladders
