Back in March 2022, I removed the IL and Rival categories. And whilst Rivals is still dead (at least for now), I have finally re-introduced the IL category for each track.
Instead of separating by class (D-X), I instead chose length now. As to not conflict with the official in-game time trial leaderboards, I ignored implementing a FLAP/1 Lap category. But I might put that in once the FM5 official servers meet their end, which might not be very long considering this game is almost nine years old.
For ILs, you can now choose from 3, 5, 10, 25, or 50 laps total.
Whilst it's realistic that most players will use an X or P Class car for these modes, it felt wrong to segregate all cars based on class. So, the fun will be figuring out what car works for you, and your driving style, on a track.
I redid the ILs because I noticed a lot of racing games on here do something similar. That, and I hadn't really touched Free Play on FM5, so I wasn't aware it was possible to set a lap limit between 1-50. Either way, hopefully this page can get a little more competition again.
Happy running!
This is something I have been thinking over for a long time (as the lone mod of this game), considering I had around 90+ IL runs here - but the in-game leaderboard is a suitable method of record keeping, at least until the game's servers go offline.
I apologise to anyone who bothered to run the IL categories, or the rival modes, but none of us were the fastest anyway. And it seemed wrong to have the sr.c page detached from the game.
Instead I have decided to include a new misc. category, where all the IL tracks can be run under whichever of the seven classes anyone chooses. That way it keeps it a bit more interesting, and there isn't such a divide between records set on the game back when it came out, and post sr.c page creation.
Still figuring out if I should do the same for the rival events, but they're more lengthy than levels, so I'm unsure as of now.
Thanks, and happy running, despite how dead this page has been for a long time.
