Recording speedruns on pc

Hello.

I just recently got into speedrunning and started running COD: MW2. After running it multiple times i want to send in a run. However i just can't seem to get a hold of a recording program that can get the job done. I have tried OBS, but after 20 seconds frames drop massivly and then it freezes. FRAPS records the gameplay fine with no lag, but since i can't get my timer recorded with that it also does not seem viable. Camtasia studio recorder also seems to lag up on me. Tried running FRAPS to record the game and camtasia at the same time to record the timer and FRAPS starts lagging a ton. Bandicam might work? but it is a good amount of money for it and i don't want to spend it.

I have a pretty decent computer, and i have been through so many programs by now, please if anybody knows a good program that does not lag and does not have a limit of how long you are allowed to record, tell me.

For OBS, did you go with the default settings? Try lowering your bitrate to 1000-1200 (if you're streaming), downscale your resolution, lower your FPS to 30, and just in general try and lower your settings. I've had issues setting up OBS before, but it works fine if you know the limits of your computer.

If you want, you can post your current settings here or on the OBS website, and people can try to help you? You may get more assistance on their forums though.

Thank you for the tip, after playing around with the settings i managed to finally find some settings where the quality was not to bad and it no longer lags.

Already watched some of the other runs, including your's, just put my third and first recorded run up.
