Format for submitting a new category Category title: SMG2 Any% Transformationless

Detailed rules explaining requirements for a run to be accepted or not: Standard Any% rules, but with the additional restriction of not allowing grabbing any of the following powerups: Cloud Mushroom, Spring Mushroom, Boo Mushroom, Fire Flower, Bee Mushroom, Rock Mushroom, Rainbow Star, Dash Pepper, Bulb Berry, or Blimp Fruit. Grabbing Spin Drills, Life Shrooms and 1Ups are allowed, as are using Yoshi and Luigi. If a transformation powerup is accidentally grabbed (most common place is Honeyhop), you must die as soon as possible or exit the stage. Do not take any unfair advantages, such as by grabbing starbits while holding the powerup, such as in Shiverburn C.

Three videos of separate runners playing said category:

Other comments (optional): Death is preferred over restarting level beacuse of how annoying that one Bee Mushroom in Honeyhop is. There are exactly 70 possible stars before Bowser (perhaps Puzzle Plank S is possible but requires switching to Luigi and does not unlock any additional stars).

Category title: SMG 1 All Bosses

Detailed rules explaining requirements for a run to be accepted or not: You need to Defeat every Boss from a complete (120 or 242) file. Timing begins on selecting the first star. After the final hit you can exit and quit the level. You DO NOT need to collect any stars except for Bowser 3. The bosses you must defeat are as follows : Dino Piranha (Good Egg 1) King Kaliente (Bowser JR. 3) Bugaboom (Honeyhive 3) Megaleg (Bowser JR. 1) Kamella (Space Junk 2 or Deepdark C) Tarantox (Space Junk 3) Topmaniac (Battle Rock C) Bouldergiest (Ghostly 3) Airship Armada (Bowser JR. 2) Barron Burr (FreezeFlame 1) Major Burrows (Gusty Garden C) Bonefin (Bonefin) Mecha Bowser (Toy Time 1) Undergrunt Gunner (Toy Time 3) Undergrunt Gunner (Gold Leaf 3) Fiery Dino Piranha (Melty Molten 3) Bowser (Bowser 3)

Other comments (optional): For certain bosses like Bonefin there is a gap between the last hit and the boss cutscene where pausing is possible. I’m not entirely sure whether or not this should be allowed, mostly because it would difficult to verify

Category title: SMG1 - All Unique 1-Ups

Detailed rules explaining requirements for a run to be accepted or not: All runs take place from a new file. You must collect all 166 1ups as listed in the guide document. After collecting all 1ups in a stage you can quit out. Timing begins on selecting the first star and ends when collect the last 1up.

Three videos of separate runners playing said category:

Other comments (optional): If another 1-up gets found (unlikely, but in theory possible) the leaderboard should be reset with only runs including this new 1-up counting, unless circumstances allow for valid arguments against it.

Can we have 362 stars (120+242) as well? use the current 484 runs as submissions if there arent enough runs of it.

United States

I think for that, you might have to do a separate run. But that's still a neat idea!

Hong Kong

I mean, these are all valid 362 runs too, we just took breaks between smg1 and smg2 :)

Category title: SMG1 No Intro

Detailed rules explaining requirements for a run to be accepted or not: Normal Mario Run but the intro sequence, which plays at the beginning of the run, will be skipped by letting the timer start at 4:51m. Therefore you start at the beginning of Gateway 1 at 4:57m, which is the same time you would start at this level as when you play the intro sequence regular. Because of the length of the blackscreen in the intro (about 7s) and the length of the blackscreen when you select 'Play this File' after you set it up (about 6s) and 4:57 as the best possible time to start Gateway 1, I came to the start time of 4:51 on the timer. To set it up correctly you have to make a new file, play the intro sequence once and save and end in Gateway 1. If you want to use this variation after a failed run again, you have to go back to the title screen through the “Home”-Button. This can be used in Any%/120 Star Mario and at the beginning of a 242 Star Run.

Three videos of seperate runners playing said category (one video because there are already two runs requested):

Other comments (optional): First 8 Minutes of the video have no sound due to a mistake by myself in my obs. This variation facilitate the grinding of the Categories, because you do not have to watch the Intro Sequence over and over again, which cost way less time. For anyone who wonders: You have to start with 0 Starbits.

Category has been added. At request of Tibs and Flygon the timer will start at 0.00 instead a start point until further notice. I also only added Any% and 120 Stars for now as 242 is rarely ran.

Why is "rarely ran" a factor in whether to add 242 as a tab?

Canada

Most of the talk was of adding it for Any% but I added 120 in just in case. I wasn't sure if people actually had plans to run 242 Stars but if people do I can add it.

Storybook% Any%, but You have to read (or scroll through) a new Chapter when it's Unlocked. Time starts when you start the file and Ends when the "The End" Page in the Storybook Appears. I was going to say you could do all the chapters in one go, but then It would just be Any% with a Post Game Cutscene. Storybook% might Mix up the route a bit.

Why have it only end after a 10 minute long cutscene tho?

United Kingdom

But if you end it before the storybook, nobody will watch the storybook cutscene and then no-one will know all the mario lore :,(

Crash%, you try to crash the game as fast as possible, timer starts from when you click start on the file. Rules: same as Any% I hope the 3 runs will come in the next month

United States

It generally makes more sense to request the category when the 3 runs have already been done.

Category title: All Talking Boards

Detailed rules explaining requirements for a run to be accepted or not: Goal is to interact with all talking boards in the game, the talking boards display actual speech bubbles like any of the textboxes that we scroll during Any% which makes them different from regular boards. Timer starts on file select of either a completed file of Mario or Luigi and ends when the last textbox of the final board disappears from the screen.
