I did a run or two a couple of months back to update my PB (now 3:54 IGT) and found a few thing to clean up the run so I'll put them here in the hope they will help someone else.
During Purple Ops after you kill Cyrus if you dive instead of run across the walkway it will skip the tripping animation.
New, earlier, place to get the void is as soon as you first enter the main simulation instead of driving straight to friendly fire go to the army base island and get the eagle that spawns in the middle of the area . From there fly that up to the platform that the void spawns don’t worry if when you get there it is not visible fly above the platform then jump out your heli onto the platform and it will have spawn.
At the first gun shop buy the smg with all level 1 upgrades and the shotgun with all level 1 upgrades this will be the only shopping you do. Shogun is for wardens smg is for all other enemies. Get back in the void clear the police at the shop, fly to the next location and clear the aliens finally fly to Kenzi’s warehouse land the void run in and hit the trigger as soon as you do get back in the void and fly to the next mission’s start point while Kenzi is talking. As soon as the mission ends save the void and use it forever more in the run.
Taking the clusters in a vehicle during Learn the rules, where they are first introduced to the cluster system, will skips the power-up animation.
When fighting Wardens if you are touching it when prompted to dive in it, it will skip a lot of the animation.
At the end of escape when the aliens are coming across the bridge you can just hide behind the boxes. If you put yourself so you can see through the gap between the 2 boxes they will rarely path around it so they can’t attack you as they try to hit you through the boxes.
After the fire tutorial reload the autosave this will make you warp over to the other side of the map you can also get the void from the simulation menu instead of calling it in saving a little more time.
During Ghost in the Machine there is a way to skip the animation for the second CID you try by taking the first one side ways with your back to the second ones trigger then spamming the trigger button during the backing away part of the first animation. The CID will just drop to the ground and put you straight to the 3rd and final one.
On the same mission when you have to download to increase the speed call in the void and it will skip the typing animation. In the very next day side scroller it is quicker to jump kick across it than to walk.
During the rescuing of Ben King dive into the markers that make you reminisce and you can get it so you skip the reminiscing. The timing of the dive is finicky the first one is quite hard I will get in 40-50% of the time while the second one is seemingly easier but I only get it 75% of the time. When you get it you get the same dropping animation you get when you skip the scripted fall in SR3
In the girl who hates the 50s at the party you need to destroy all of the CIDs that are circling the shield don’t waste ammo use the turret and before you disable the satellite kill all the aliens and portals in the immediate area otherwise you will keep getting interuped.
In the girl who hates the 50s when the propaganda trucks come after you it is far easier if you stand behind one of the indestructible telegraph pole so that they are not constantly hitting you.
In key master you can skip the battery collection animation by calling for the void after prompting to collect.
In punch the shark when you are waiting for cid to hack the shield rather than fighting you can hide under the stairs, go behind them crouch then walk into them you will partially clip through them, it is a nice place to stay hidden from all the enemies until you can progress. You will sometime get knock out of your place but you can just return there preserving ammo and not risk getting killed.
In the final mission where you destroy the simulation reloading the checkpoint will let you call for the void which makes defending the portals far easier.
When you get the health increase upgrade it will fill your health bar back up so if you ever are near death this is a useful trick to survive without having to slow down and hide in cover. I personally use it on the mission where you go on to the Zin ship.
Another neat trick is what I call the weapon cache boost basically if you going the weapon cache it will give you a ammo boost on your weapons and as it can be accessed in the gateway menu it is well worth doing it from time to time when you re-enter the simulation.
In my route there is only 3 power up upgrades I get so minimal clusters are needed and they can all be taken in places you are waiting for thing to happen they are the following Blast recharge ASAP helps to take down Wardens quicker, Telekinesis recharge before Emergency situation to speed up throwing the clones in the gateway and jump height increase before key master where you are inside the building when CID is putting the key in the lock.
Hey sellz, good to see someone else is still working on this. Anyway, been interested in running this game for a while, and decided to try out a segmented run. Here's just a few things I've discovered, not sure if they're used in the run or not
Mission 1 When you have to take out the first terrorist, get right in front of him so that he notices you, then you can shoot him and the other terrorist without having to go through the stabbing animation No terrorist kills are required afterwards until the breach, which is self-explanatory
Mission 2 Right, Right, and Left are the fastest dialogue choices at the beginning It's possible to skip certain abduction sequences after picking up your gun. I managed to skip Keith David's abduction by using the diving trick, but that glitched out the game, and I couldn't sprint. I also managed to skip Asha and Matt's abduction sequences fairly consistently using the same trick
Also, sorry for posting the same info on this website as well as the SDA forums. Got a little carried away there
Sorry for not posting here in a while, had to take care of some other things
In the girl who hates the 50's, I managed to kill Cyrus incredibly quickly. When Cyrus jumped onto the roof of the building, he accidentally slid off somehow and fell to the ground, instantly killing him. I doubt this can be recreated, but it's just something to note. Also, maybe buying that perk that prevents cars from knocking you down when they hit you would be useful for that mission, as hiding behind the telephone poles might be a bit slow
During ''Anomalous Readings : Test your Mettle on Super Power Fight Club'' you can kill the first wave (black guys) really fast by just throwing them with the telekinese.
During ''Grand Finale : Part one'' get in one of those tanks every platform while the key moves. It may help defending the key and avoids losing health. Besides it saves a lot of Ammo.
During ''King Me : Kill Big Tony and Kill Tanya'' save up at least 4-5 Rocket Launchers (ammo) to kill Big Tony and Tanya very fast.
Hints:
If you only do the main missions, you will get automatically to the level, where you can upgrade your life two times! This means you got 2 possibilities to save your life. Same as Ammo i believe.
So sorry it's been so long, saw my name in the active runners list for SR4, so I decided to actually be active in this game for once. I'll work on a segmented test run soon, and just base the route off the current WR. I'll try to do 1 segment per mission, and see if I can come up with any route changes. Hoping to get sub 3:45 for in game time if possible. Will report back on m progress later
Edit: As a tip for Baqonator, don't constantly roll unless your trying to do an animation skip. Rolling is slightly slower than running, not by much, but it adds up in the end :)
3:45 is a big target and I wish you the best of luck in doing it my 3:54 felt very good for a single segment run and 10 mins off that will be a tough task even segmented.
As for re routing, the game itself is pretty linear in how you have to approach it, you very rarely have the option to do more than 1 mission so realistically all the time has to be found in mission execution and possible skips.
If you want help or someone to bounce ideas off I am more than willing to help.
Yeah, I realize that 3:45 is going to be incredibly difficult. To be honest, if I can get sub 3:50, I'll be happy. I just want to run this game, and I don't have enough time to do 4+ hour runs all the time
So, I keep on encountering a weird glitch with the loading screens. If I mash away at the A button (Xbox 360 controller), sometimes, I'll skip a cutscene. For example. In the second mission, once I meet up with Shaundi, and get to the press conference, I'll spawn not in the usual quick time event, but being able to only walk. I had to walk backwards just to initiate the quick time event. I also managed to skip a cutscene completely (the cutscene didn't even start playing). Has anyone else encountered this? I'm not sure if it's useful or not
I have encounted that same thing on that same cutscene. I believe it is the same thing that happens as skipping any other animation by diving into it. I even timed it to see if it was a time save, it isn't, so I mash slightly later to stop this time lose occuring.
I found a glitch today that has some promise to save a few seconds here or there. Basically if you call for your mech suit while inside any building you go into a state that is half way between having it and not. You will have the mini-gun and rockets like you would wearing the mech suit but you will also be able to use super sprint and super jump, though you can not use any other of the super powers.. Not sure where this will be overly useful with the void available to call in at any time but I'm sure there will be somewhere this can be used especially if some how it can be carried into the real world sections. At the least this should help if anyone intent to do 100% with a fast way to do the 4mile in the mech suit challenge.
Did a de-rust run this morning and somehow, after not touching the game for a month or so, it came out to be a PB of 3:52 IGT.
After the run I was messing about and found something that could possibly be used. If you mash jump and cancel (A & Y on X Box 360) you can end up stuck in the fall animation which puts you in a state of levitation. You can move about but it is not fast enough to be an alternate form of travel, even with the fact no sprint energy is used, and you can also not jump when in this state. The main thing I have found to do with it is if you go into a body of water, due to lazy programming, there is often a world hole that can put you under the map. If you fall enough it will place you back in the overworld next to the nuclear plant so a possible OOB warp but I have not thought of where this warp is useful. Possibly 100% runs could use it.
The other thing is once under you can call in the void and fly under the map. Due to solid floors this can’t be use to travel but something that is interesting. If you go to where the Saint’s Penthouse from SR3 is and drop down you can find the space ship where your homies reside. This opens the question are there other points under the map where other places physical locaions are? If so some potential wrong warps and mission skip are there to be found. The unlikely possibility of finding the final battle area of Zinyak and triggering it could make the game sub 40mins.
Planned to do a quick bad ending% run today, luckily, I checked my timer during the unskippable cut scene and saw I was 4mins up on my PB, that had a poor start, and 2mins faster than I have ever been at that stage of a run so an impromptu full run came of it.
Everything seemed to click into place, dealt with the clones in A Game of Clones quickly, all the rescues went well, got the quick fire buff kill on the inside aliens in The Girl Who Hates the 50s- He Lives and while the end of that mission could have been better I was happy with it, I didn’t get trolled much by the zin in Keymaster-Batteries Not Included which is rare for a solo run and I got the Zinyak stuck glitch in the final fight. So all in all I’m very happy with the run.
http://s1261.photobucket.com/user/sellz4/media/100_4897.jpg.html?sort=3&o=4 3:42IGT 3:55:48 according to my timer. There may be another 4 or so mins to get on this current route solo maybe sub 3:50 at a push but I doubt I’ll try much more for now to get them as I’m pretty happy with this time and I’d rather put the time into SR1 or 2 than chasing 4 mins that is mostly be down to RNG with them not interrupting animations and getting good warden fights.
HoboWithAShotgun You’ll properly want to change your segmented run target. 3:38 or there or there about is probably possible for a Segmented run if you’re willing to put in the time grinding the segments getting good warden fights.
Thank you have help me, now i can do some speedrun and do you have split for this game ( for livesplit ) :D
