As a joke, a friend of mine and I raced each other in Extra mode (he is decent like myself so it was fun).
Anyways, it got me thinking:
Honestly, I am surprised nobody else has started an Extra mode category and was wondering if anyone would be interested in getting competitive in this mode?
I know it's probably cringe-worthy to you guys who have been doing runs for years now due to the extremely fine-tuned muscle memory with 150cc and time trials, but I think it could be pretty fun and a great way to diversify this game a little.
What do you think?
I like it. I also don't know why other people don't do it, aside from being driven by convention not too.
I also think they should add 50cc runs.
My run is 50cc and doesn't use any movement related items (to prevent sandbagging to 4th place to get more mushrooms). It also does not press R.
I like this. I wish more people did stuff like this. I know dkr_paddy will run fun categories in games sometimes but I typically never see anybody else do anything of the sort.
My first EXTRA mode no skips was a 45:05. It's 100cc so it won't be as fast but dang is that Toad's Turnpike a crazy map.

I don't think it's a good idea to add Extra Mode categories to the leaderboard for similar reasons I outlined in the MKDD section about Mirror Mode.
Not only is Extra not significantly different from regular GP, it's also much slower since it's 100cc. I think the MK64 competition is already partitioned enough as is with Skips/No Skips and N64/VC/emulator.
While Extra speedruns can certainly be a fun alternative to the usual, I don't think they have their place as recognized "legitimate" categories on the leaderboard.
Even as misc categories, they're still "legitimized" by their presence on the leaderboard. The current implementation of misc categories is insufficient to properly be able to incorporate these alternative speedruns (be it Extra or 50cc no-R). If anything, MK64's misc categories should be individual 150cc cups, just like the other games in the series.

i can understand not having 50cc no-r since that was a joke run, but extra mode is actually a thing (with some differences, albeit minor)
That is a fair point about misc categories, but it varies person by person on what should be misc and what shouldn't be kept track of.
