Just post data here. Category definitions? Amiibo effects? Take your time game has just been released but try to use thread to centralize stuff so we can get an idea on how to create the leaderboard
We need to discuss the 19 different routes as categories (yikes...) and also the definition of 100% (Adventures, here we go again! :D).
Nothing so far it seems, except for how long it takes to beat them/how many points you're able to get on the different paths. The 3 last missions seem to be always the same either. My opinion goes to that any% would be required to be played in Arcade-Mode and that you're free to choose what path you're going to take out of these 19 paths. Even though one of these will be the fastest in the end that everyone's gonna run. But maybe the path changes because some new skip was found. Or maybe 2 paths are very similar time wise and only differ for a couple seconds. That's one of the reasons why I think we shouldn't have 19 categories for the same ending. IGT should be used, unless it's inaccurate.
Oh and maybe we could use the other paths for races on SRL.
I also did a "run" of a path I thought might be fast and got a sub 44, so runs won't be longer than 44 IGT minutes. You can watch it here: http://bombch.us/B_lg No audio because Elgato acted up. This was just to see how long an any% run might take, how Path 7 looks like and for fun. Would be also cool if we wouldn't put random runs like these on the leaderboards at first.
I would also be for a "All missions" category, there are 20 missions to chose from and the main game does keep track your time you've spent in missions, even if you don't complete them. It would require you to: Use a completely new save file, have to beat every of the 20 missions, beat Andross as the last mission. IGT should be used aswell unless it's inaccurate. I'm not sure about the requirement that Andross has to be the last mission because you do unlock certain events of past missions if you progress through the main game. We'd have to investigate how these events are actually unlocked.
And for 100% I can't say much yet.
When do we end time? When you lose control of Fox after James kills andross, or results screen? Asking for RTA purposes
AFAIK RTA would be irrelevant in this instance but we do need to set an RTA standard timing method JUST in case something happens to the IGT down the road. I would vote we do how sf64 does it, which is gain control to lose control.
I really want IGT to be the real thing, and I highly doubt that Nintendo will take it away. But sure, we can have both in, but then IGT should be the standard.
I'm just saying IGT preferred at this point and time, but if it turns out to be bullshit like Assault where not every version is equal with IGT, then we'd need to have RTA. For now though, it's not required to show RTA but having a standard will help just in case we deem IGT to be bad
I don't really see a point in delaying posting times for this game for any% as competition is already happening. Any% should be pretty well defined - there is literally a place in the game where it tracks best time in Arcade Mode. It would be run in the way that Sert has already mentioned. Other categories will probably have to be worked out, that can be done in tandem with the any% leaderboard.
As for amiibo effects - there are two skins that can be unlocked either by using amiibos or by getting all 70 metals in the game: black arwing, and retro arwing. As far as I know, retro arwing does not have any side effects besides changing the arwing to look like the SNES version. Black arwing has the side effect of taking more damage than the regular one, effectively acting as the game's hard mode. Someone said that it can lock onto two enemies at once, but the regular arwing can do this too.
To respond to current discussion, I personally don't really care whether RTA or IGT is the standard for this game. IGT seems to be accurate from my point of view - IGT only counts time spent in game, and not in menu and is roughly 12 minutes faster than RTA from what I can see. For the purposes of RTA timing, I think that the timing should be from selection of "Start from Beginning" in Arcade Mode to loss of control after Andross (i.e. how Star Fox Assault does it).
In terms of other categories, I also agree with Sert's "All Missions" idea. It sucks there isn't a way to time this properly without erasing save data, however I don't really see a way around it. 100% might be something like "all missions, all metals." I don't really think that the training mode stuff is relevant since there doesn't appear to be an upper limit to score, and there are no extra metals awarded for any of it.
Some quick things I've learned both from attempts and by discussing with others about the actual run: -Boost meter doesn't update when any room in Corridor of Illusion is loading. -Gigarilla can potentially have a quick kill if you bomb its back twice -Sector Omega's boss's second phase can apparently also be quickly ended with a bomb, however I have not personally done this
I was asking to delay adding times because I've been the one making the leaderboards w/ sub categories and didn't want to have to re-add a ton of runs because things have been found out afterwards which means extra senseless work. I have a general idea on how to make the leaderboard but lack the means ¤points at pottoww¤ to begin making the changes.
So for now, here's how I see the leaderboard:
Any%, All Missions (needs discussed), 100%
Sub cats: Amiibo, no amiibo
To do later, define these properly with rules (later thread)
No. Apparently you can achieve the same thing you can with Amiibo's without actually buying them, only by completing the game with all medals. This means that I don't want Amiibo to be a sub category because it would be literally exactly the same thing.
All Missions is weird. Where do we do that? Do we clear the file? This can not be happening until we know what to do. I don't like the idea with "Hey just go into main game and select all stages, doesn't matter the order" because that isn't a speedrun for me.
Also with 100%, besides the exact same problems as above, we also need to define it. I could open up Any%, but I won't get Amiibo as a thing and I won't add 100% and/or all missions until we have that down properly.
Also, people will run all routes, and people are going to ask us to have separate categories for them. I have always said "If people compete in it, it's a category" and this won't be an exception. How do we handle this? Because I don't want there to be 19 categories but I can not see how we can avoid that.
Um, I'm saying this because I'm pretty sure Nintendo is going to release more amiibos for this game in future. For now it may not mean anything, but it'd be way less work if it happens to do nothing. I'm banking on them releasing some that give extra content, so better now than having to fix a mess later
I found a route that take a pretty short amount of time! Not sure how fast I kinda suck with controls so I messed up more than a few times.
zallard tested black arwing and it does more damage output and has larger charged shot blast radius. Unsure if bombs are affected, but if you run any%, use black arwing. Downside to Black Arwing is it takes more damage from enemies
Would we use real time or in game time for speedruns? And just have amiibos in a misc category. Since snes arming can't lock on and the black one is strong offense and shit defense but u all new that. And just have story and arcade their own categories and the training challengesession cause why noy
Guess most of the discussion is here. Just gonna throw this out there. What about Arcade as the standard for speedrunning? It shows you your IGT pretty effectively for each route if we're splitting the 19 different ones into categories. Also solves the Amiibo problem too. :P
At 5PM EST we will have a vocal discussion live in the Star Fox discord. If you want to be there and discuss the game, feel free to do so.

Sorry I couldn't be there. When you work night shift you sleep in the afternoon. :(
Anyway, threw this sloppy run together. This is on Course N, most likely the fastest course.
There is so much to fix here. First off, still not polished on Lone Wolf yet. As you can tell, I still haven't gotten the medal. Frantic pausing while trying to U-turn didn't help either :| Goofed Beta forgetting where the holes in the shield were. And for some reason, the game saying I turned right at the LAST FORK in the Venom corridor, resulting in...yeah. But it was worth it for that medal! :D
But along the bad, that was probably one of the best Attack Carrier's I've ever had. I swear that I could've one cycled it.
IGT was 39:42 RTA was ~47:50 (Timing I did was different then what actual timing is)
Don't count on that vid staying there. I'll have a better run soon
Will Individual Levels be recorded here? With in-game time it's a lot easier to keep track of them.
