I know they are hidden by default, but I think that emulators should be completely banned. Since this game is reliant on RNG, (i.e. board game island, solo) the fast load times on emulators can cause one to get a good time with mediocre/bad luck. Take the Beginner Solo WR for example, it was achieved by not getting the absolute best combination of minigames to run. However, the only reason why they got a WR was because they used Dolphin, which sped up the load times. Also, according to the mods, they say that if the load times were normal, the WR would be dethroned. I just personally think it's unfair for the people who use real hardware and it's just my opinion.
i see your point and i feel excactly the same, but after 7 years of the boards it's just too late to ban emulators and people would be really furious about it. however i hate this too how emulator runners get their "wr" due to faster load times without realizing how bad their run is (with some exceptions like board game island)
I just want to slap some of my opinions here as well.
I don't believe a game as old as this should cost money to speedrun.
I would like to the blame the website. If Elo improved the emulator tag by adding an option to put emulator tagged runs in a separate leaderboard instead of the same leaderboard for a category, this issue would instantly go away.
I definitely encourage more opinions from others though because trying to categorize emulator/USB loader runs has been, to say it lightly, one of the biggest pains in the rear end I've had to deal with as a moderator for this game.
Hi, I would like to start off by apologizing since I'm one of the people who uploaded my recent run as an emulator a few days ago. I'm going to try and remove the run I posted that was done on emulator since I'm in agreement on the topic of emulators having an unfair advantage.
My reason for coming back to Wii Party is for a casual return to the game while at the same time trying to see if I could improve my in-game records I had long ago. During my time coming back to play Wii Party, I did realize something that there is something I just knew about a little while ago that I would say is unfair in my opinion, and maybe I thought this would also be worth sharing here.
Depending on if you play Wii Party on PAL50, PAL60, or NTSC, there are some minigames with higher records that can only be achieved if you play Wii Party on PAL 50Hz on your console. Minigames like Space Race / Cosmic Capers, Bobsled Highway, Jumbo Jump, and possibly a few more minigames have the biggest advantage running in 50fps since these minigames have scores and times that are most likely impossible to get when playing Wii Party at 60fps.
Maybe this has already been mentioned, and not much is or can be done about it, or people don't know about it, but I think this is worth sharing. I don't know if it's too late to suggest something like having a leaderboard and separating runs between Wii Party running at 50Hz vs 60Hz. That was why I played Wii Party on the PAL version on my Space Race run; it was the only way to reach at least 18 seconds or below. Even on the Jumbo Jump minigame, the only way to legitimately get the max score of 464m is to get the PAL version of the game and run it at 50Hz on console.
This probably may not affect runs with RGT, but definitely some scores and runs with IGT for some minigames have the bigger advantage at 50Hz instead of 60Hz. This is based on what I've learned so far since I have both the NTSC and PAL versions of the game. But what do you guys think?
I understand why you would do this, and I also do agree with one of the mods who said a game as old as this shouldn’t cost money to speedrun. I don’t personally see this being an advantage in most cases besides individual mini game runs, though. I knew about this advantage though, and that’s another reason why I thought emulation should be banned. Also, I love your YouTube videos and have been a fan since 2017 keep it up nil.
People's CD drives are also in the future going to wear off and die and to my knowledge nobody has recreated a Wii-disc-readable disc drive.
Can't you split up the emulator and disc runs? then it's fair for everyone because the loading screen speed advantage is gone and then you can chose to play on disc or emulator and you don't need to pay money to speedrun

This is off topic but no biggie. I've concluded on this a little while ago that nothing needs to be changed since it only affects a couple individual minigames, but having annotations for 50Hz refresh and 60Hz refresh is not a bad idea for the future so it's noted.

This has actually been considered, but I'm not a fan of how it'd look on all of the categories since it would need to appear as a subcategory. With the amount of emulator tagged runs there are, I'm not sure if it's really worth the effort doing.
