Hi all,
I noticed that the loading times between the levels are different. In Arans runs they are round about 3-4 sec in Reboots run the loading times are taking about 10s which is quite are difference on the long run.
I also did some runs and was using my standard setup for runs which is basically a A1200 (68020 AGA Cycle Exact with 2MB RAM + 2MB Z2Fast RAM) WHDLoad version. Well of course I use this to reduce loading times which are the same as Arrans loading times. I did a messy run with many crashes and its sub 17m (but 7/7 wins) but of course beating Reboot was no match with his extended Loading times.
So should we agree on some basic setup for running this game or is it a free for all?
Cheers MilkToast
the preferred emulator is FS-UAE, A1200, 8mb fast, whdload to keep a meaningful board. note that winuae often has different load times. reboots loads are ~69.25 seconds longer overall, so 16:00 is about right. this is assuming no differences in game speed.
The game is probably doing some decompression of data. The actual loading should happen from RAM with WHDLoad and the PRELOAD option, so that makes a different with a faster CPU.
I usually use an Amiga 500+ setup for games that do not need the AGA chipset, to be more compatible with actual hardware. You just need kickstart 2.0 for WHDLoad. But if you want a different setup i'll do future runs with those.
Hi,
thx for the answers. I was just unsure to submit a run which is kinda messy but still faster then the current WR just because of the loading times (without claryfing this). I will go with a similar setup like Arran in my future attempts to match the same loading times.
See you on the Leaderboard ;)
@MilkToast did you submit your WinUAE run by mistake ? there is >1 second difference each load (6 shop / 7 race) which does add up. will make the adjustment just to get the run up, future runs please try to use the recommended setup.
If the difference is still that huge you can reject it, I thought I matched the speed sry about that. Well then I try to use FS-UAE then.
Maybe it would be better to enable the "Separate load times" option for the game and set the default to "Time without loads" instead of adjusting the RTA time we can then can just retime the runs entirely without loading time. We would just need to define when a loading time starts and when it ends.
time without loads is a good idea when load times are inconsistent and there is no alternative, but that isn't the case here. we would still have doubt (since we are within seconds of each other), and enforcing loadless won't encourage new runs. hopefully, we can (by new run submissions or starting afresh) remove the adjusted runs.
