Hey all,
Ran this long ago, and got back into arcade emulation again recently. Just wondering what the rationale was behind not allowing MAME2010 (AKA MAME 0.139). As far as I'm aware, it is the only version of MAME that runs KI arcade accurately, without glitching on audio and FMVs. Versions beyond that one all seem to glitch and stutter on non-sprite content.
I simply wanted to understand if there was a specific reason in disallowing it. Thanks.
Ok, so MAME team made it public everything that changed on each update they do.
Based in the info available here: http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=kinst
We can see that some bugs and features have been fixed such as:
0.188: Added AnyIDE roms, switched to BIOS system [Osso]. Updated hardware info [Guru]. Merged Killer Instinct (v1.5d), (v1.3), (v1.4), (proto v4.7) and BIOS (v1.5d AnyIDE) to 'Killer Instinct'. Removed clones Killer Instinct (v1.3), (v1.4) and (proto v4.7).
0.253: Fixed regression with ABS opcode S flag (adsp2100\2100ops.hxx). Fixes Fight End/Game Over tone fade-in issue in Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2 [mjrgh].
0.256: Do slot output signals the sensible way (ata\atadev.cpp/h, ata\atahle.cpp/h), fixes Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2 do not get beyond blue startup screen [Vas Crabb].
Based in this info, we came to the conclusion that having all players using similar versions of MAME would make the dispute fair and square (or at least closer to it).
Interesting. So 0.253/0.256 would fix those issues as well. Gonna look into it. Thanks!
