Hi everyone! With the latest patch making OoB more difficult we would like to hear your opinions on the category since you're the ones who run it. What do you guys want to happen to this category?
- Just End it?
- Reject old patches?
- Accept old patches but mix leaderboard?
- Accept old patches separate category?
I dont run oob/any% in this game but other games like Dark souls have they seperated ”Old patch” and ”Current patch”. Its looks clean. But ppl with a digital copy of the game can only run at current patch is kinda bummer. Or on pc with a ”borrowed” version
Accept old patches separate category.
As @NuZ "Current patch" / " "Old patch" should be perfect.
For people with a digital copy on console (like me), there's no way to downgrade but it's not community fault so we have to deal with it or buy a physical copy. It was our choice to buy it digitally after all.
Also, to add to what @YossyHop said, there is a way to roll back steam game versions pretty easily. If you wanted to, you could roll back before the update and use the "legacy version" and just don't update the game. Just a thought as well.
I hate the idea of splitting this up even more. Glitched isn't even popular. I don't think a single category for it even has 10 runners, several of them only having one to three (even more with Z-E-R-O), and you guys want to split it up even further now? Let's split several individual categories each up into two. Categories with no runners in the first place. monkaHmm
"It's harder" doesn't mean "it's impossible". Either filter it, allow any patch (it's the wild west category, after all) or kill it, due to the patching and general inactivity. Either of the first two allow the category time to grow -- but I have a feeling it's going to just be a wasteland a year from now, even if we split it. Just my personal opinion.
Accept and either mix them up (like 120/60fps were mixed together) or just separate them, imo
My overall goal has always been to open the category up to as many people as possible which is why I started making the howto's - not restrict the category.
Here are my thoughts from the unofficial thread:
"This is a hard topic because I can see where it's coming from.
But to compare it to something would be to that of a normal categories route. It's up to the runner to decide the fastest route.
In this situation, it's up to the runner to decide which patch makes them faster.
The reason why there are splits for other categories is for issues such as pay to win due to fps limitations - not because knife is faster in 120.
All in all, there is still two major skips in both patches now that 1.03 has found a sewers skip - so even in that regard they are similar"
The name is in the category, its GLITCH (as in break that game as much as possible) - find the patch that lets you as the runner do the run faster - its about breaking the game and the quickest way possible.
At first no one could do the 1.0 airwalk that everyone is now saying is easy. It wasn't until people were forced to learn it that it became easy. So limiting it to a specific patch just because one is slightly easier than the other just shouldn't be an excuse. As CursedToast said '"It's harder" doesn't mean "it's impossible".' Find your groove and own on the leaderboard through practice of which ever patch you're most comfortable and ultimately fastest with. As far as being able to tell which patch the runner is on, it's extremely obvious to tell based on which sewers they use and if the character hurdles the railing.
I think, if we start splintering it, it'll cause a divide in an already unpopular category if we were to say only run on patch x when both skips are still highly doable and feasible. A category only grows with competition. Splintering it also chances killing any competition as does a barrier to entry (having to downgrade the game just for running glitch category - not to mention, some setups simply can't run anything but current patch).
To me, changing the leaderboards to support multiple patches (splintering) or only accept one patch, both seem like unnecessary overhead (overhead being runners being on the same rule-set AND verifiers having to fight with "but my run was faster, you mean i have to use patch x?") when the point in the first place is to break the game.
Im 100% ok with accepting old patch and current patch and mixing the runs together. I do agree current patch is not impossible but does nearly require you to be at a perfect angle for the glitch. I have 1 run waiting verification which was recorded before 1.03 came out for console but i will say if i was forced to run on 1.03 i would probably just learn a standard vs glitched run because of how much time you could lose on skips.
My thought is to just have a filter that displays which version the run was done on, especially since on PC you can chose whichever version you wish on Steam. However for Console it's a bit more complicated since you can only chose between latest and 1.0 and only if you own a physical copy. So I'm mixed for that but I still think it should just be a filter as well, otherwise we're going to have a category/separation everytime Capcom releases a patch xD
Split (coupled together) or force a specific patch, most recent preferably. Or just throw one into the CE? shrug
For real though, this game has waaaaaaaaay too many categories as it is already. There's 16 Glitched categories alone. With this split there would be 32, since every scenario would then have at least two trackable patches, coupled with NG+ and NG.
It makes no sense to have the different patches in the same category, the early skip for 2nd runs saves around 4 minutes over doing it in the library, and the early skip isn't possible on 1.03. It's not a case of how hard it is to do the glitch, but where you can still do it; even the new sewer skip isn't in the same spot as it was before for the same reason and it adds a few minutes to the run as well, there is no way 1.03 can compete with 1.00 and even if new skips were found to make up for the time, it would be a very different route that would warrant a separate category anyway. As I see it there are only 2 sensible choices: 1 reject old patch 2 separate the patches
PS: I haven't kept up too much with the forum lately so if I missed any relevant info about the skips please give me an update.
I think the leader board should be split regardless as to whether its messy or not, that's what the website is for, tracking times for people's runs.
The real issue is people don't care anymore about glitches because they only see OOB in their mind. That's sad cause most of the RE2R runners don't even look after new stuff but just copy strats like monkeys ...
I hope a new kind of glitch will be discover and then people will realize that some will cry because they cannot use it in "main" board
( Sorry about this post, it s the last here, just consider my vote :) )
We won't consider your vote, seeing as you don't run the category, or care about glitches. We asked for the OoB runners to give their input on the category that THEY run. Besides, you just insulted everyone who has put work into discovering strats/routes in this game, and simply called them monkeys. How are we supposed to take you seriously with that kind of attitude?
First, it's stupid to only consider people who run a specific category and so not simply the game because here there's maybe only 2 peoples voting who run the glitched ... even Lessaid that i know very close of glitches don't have an official time on the board actually. Plus not even a moderator have so ...
Second, i m sorry if i were rude on people when i said monkeys, my goal was only to make think people that others stuff can be find and to not only think about present. So yes i m sorry if the word "monkey" can chock and i apologize. Hope people can understand that it was not my goal to insult.
Last, i don't care about glitches ? I guess you don't know me very well
It's pretty easy to downpatch the game on PC and console runners can just delete the game and reinstall it without doing the update so 1.0 is still very easily accessible so i say just leave it as is and maybe add a variable for what patch you are using, no need to seperate or add new cateogories for each patch, a variable will suffice.
I dont have an official time on the boards for OOBs yet but i have a pending one that was recorded on an old patch when it was. Current . I prefer old patch since 1.03 is definitely harder and needs the perfect angle and manipulation of zombie to get the skips. Which for leon can literally make a break a run if you miss first try.
I was mostly concerned about running the game in a category that i like running. Being obsolete because in the future it may get fixed.
If seperating the boards more is an issue then you will have to mix boards. But as i see it no 1.03 time will beat a unpatched time.
