I started speedrunning Luigi's Mansion last week and was using an USB Loader for now. I would like to get on the leaderboard, but since USB loaders are banned I would like to know a few things:
- Playing from SD Card is also banned I assume?
- Can I burn the ISO on a Disc (DVD) or is that also banned? (No, I am not a pirate and have bought the game)
- I have a European PAL Wii, can I play an original copy of the NTSC JP version without problems on it?

- Yeah, SD Card is also banned. You need to run on a disc.
- I'm.... not sure? I don't even know how that would load.... would love other people's input but I'm inclined to say no.
- You can use a region changer (don't know what it's called because I have a japanese wii but I'm sure other people can enlighten us on that) so that you don't have to buy a japanese wii to play a japanese disc.

You can use a custom loader such as PriiLoader (there are alternatives, I liked this one the best) to bypass the region lock. I use it to play my JP games on my EN Wii. Chances are, if you followed a guide to install Homebrew you may already have it installed. Hold the reset button on your Wii on the main menu screen to check. You'll know if it comes up.
While it's technically possible to burn the ISO to a disc, I don't believe the Wii will recognize it.
Dios Mios is to play games from a hard drive connected to your Wii.
If you own the disc game, you can use priiloader to unlock the region lock, you can play disc any region
it's possible to read burned disc with nintendont, old wii can reconogize them. but i believe it's not allowed as far as i know for now.
Since people seem a bit confused, let me chime in here. As long as you are loading through the disc channel on your Wii, chances are that whatever you're doing is fine. For the sake of lessening the variables, it'd be nice if you unlocked the region with priiloader and used a JP disc, but it's ultimately not a bad thing as long as you're not doing anything to create an unfair advantage.
