I decided it'd be a good idea to keep track of all skips currently known, so here's a spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Gd56Y6QEH8cfkx0cjWR2WsQnGNgPeJWQEaj9BomHZDg/edit?usp=sharing Gonna try to keep this as up-to-date as possible and have videos for every skip If you know of any skips that aren't listed, please let me know
Also if any of you can get the 1st Zvil Raceway skip consistent (the one where you just crash at the start and sometimes it skips a lap) PLEASE let us know. A couple of us have looked at it but can't figure out why it works.
My current theory is that it checks how far you've travelled every time you respawn. Once you hit a certain threshold it gives you the lap upon respawning (since you're on the finish line). This would make sense because it seems to give you the lap in a consistent interval (usually about 1.5 minutes) and when I was going for quick deaths it took longer (almost 3 minutes a lap). If this is the case, the "skip" is entirely useless.
This would also make sense with other tracks. You can't repeat the same shortcut over and over to get 3 second laps. This would again be because you haven't travelled far enough in that lap. I reckon it's not the full distance of the track but maybe >50% or something? What do you guys think about it?
Yeah, what you said about respawns seem likely. Been trying the Zvil stuff for a while now with about the same stuff happening as it did with you.
Lemmy found a good setup for Storm Coast. I was right you need to kill yourself first in order to skip a Lap, and repeat it for every Lap. Im gonna try if you can skip 2 laps right in the beginning and finish lap 3
Since it's been discovered the reverse driving glitch is basically possible on every track. Wouldn't it make sense to ban that method? Because this way every track winds up being the same thing.
I'm actually okay with them fixing most of the skips on patch day. And if they don't fix them(hopefully the reverse driving one is fixed), it might be easier to see and find others with the new Track Minimap they're adding.
Edit: An idea for the doc: Would it be possible to add what leagues the shortcuts work on?
I've made it so that anyone can put comments on the spreadsheet. Just right click a cell and add a comment. For a lot of them I'm not sure what leagues they can be done on so if you guys wanna help with that, that'd be great
Good to hear they announced a patch! I'm hoping they don't fix the cool shortcuts, but even if they do it's a small price to pay to prevent all the reverse driving ones
Speaking of which. since that's possible on so many tracks now, should I bother adding all of them individually? Once they all have videos I guess that would be fine, but for now I'm not sure what to do about it
The hibashira speedway one is possible on all speeds. The storm coast one is barely possible on subsonic. All you need to use is 90% of your boost. The chouku city gap jump shortcut can be done with two individual boosts on subsonic and one boost on supersonic.
If they fix how far you have to drive in the patch that would get rid of most of the shortcuts like storm coast and all the backwards ones. It would not effect the Chouku City gap jump shortcut though or the Sunahara Desert short cuts because they involve moving farther along the track and shortcuts instead of just making a lap count. I'm not sure though.
Might be bit of a silly question, but what happens with the times set using skips and glitches once they patch some (or all, who knows) of them?
We'll move them to a new Category (Like Category + Out Dated or something like that, we'll see) and make it misc. With that, the runs still exist, but aren't a problem for the current Patch/Version. Or we could add a Version Variable and make all with that Version misc.
Having a version variable would be nice I think, especially if anyone could just delete update data. I've heard Wii U doesn't usually allow that, but I'm not sure how exactly it works
I think this game needs harder skips. All the skips are really easy to pull-off and cause an almost guaranteed win. It takes away from other people's experience. I still love these skips though. My favorite is the Sunahara Desert ones because they are overpowered.
With adding that variable you're gonna double the amount of categories though. Personally I don't really mind, because glitchless runs is how I have most fun with this game, but I feel other people might object to the idea of so many categories.
I do dislike having a huge amount of categories, but it's also silly to void all old stats with a new update or to force everyone to play the old version which would also block online play. I feel adding a variable is the lesser of the evils
Im not sure if I even wanna do glitched runs, im still all for waiting to see what the patch actually does.
Not a shortcut, but a technique that can save a bit of time in the beginning of Willard Mine:
Basically there is an upslope right in the beginning that kills your speed if you drive forward normally, but if you go though sideways with mashing R or L you can get through there with a lot more speed. Driving on the side like that generally reduces speedloss and I think it could be used on multiple places like the first jump on Sendai Outpost.
I found a new skip in Willard Mine:
When you are at the end of the first pipe, you can abuse the pipe gravity to make a really big jump, by driving on the right side of the pipe and going out of the track facing around 45° left at the end. Now try to flight as far as you can above the track past those walls and do not land on the track, fall down and die. When you respawn just before the first pipe turn around and go backwards and you will get a lap. This can be used in lap 1 and 3 and i got a 1:09:566 with it.
I just found another skip in Sendai Outpost:
At the first jump, mash L and turn right, to fly as far as possible left next to the track ( don't land on the track, just try to fly as far as possible and get respawned back ) Do this 2 times and then just turn around and go back and you will get a lap. This works on all 3 laps and I got a 56:149 with this.
another shortcut in Cevo Canyon:
before the 2nd jump, just go back far enough and you will get an extra lap. You will need to drive sideaways, because if the game resets your postion for you the lap skip can be messed up. You can also do a swaggy jump backwards above the canyon, but I doubt it saves time. It can be done in lap 1 and lap 3 and i got a 1:07:466 with this skip.
Kenshu Jungle lap skip:
At the part where the track splits in 2 paths, go one path and go back via the other path, go sidaways first to not get caught by the repositioning system and then go back far enough and you will get a lap. This skip can be used in lap 1 and lap 3 (only saves ~1-2 secs in lap 3 I estimate) and i got a 1:06:366 with it.
Avalanche Valley:
Before the first avalanche go back and drive sideaways so sharply that you are driving back backward. When you are around the orange boost strip you should trigger the lap skip. You can use the orange boost strip to head forwards again quickly and it looks really cool. This skip can be done in lap 1 and 3 and I got a 1:02:999 with it.
Here is a video demonstration of all the shortcuts:
