I am looking for anyone willing to assist in routing/playtesting The Bard's Tale for PC (2004). It is not yet on the games list and I would very much like to run it, but I require assistance in order to route it out, playtest it and so forth. The game is also available on PS2 and Xbox, but the only way I currently would be able to record/stream it would be on PC. It is a game I very much enjoy and would like to see made a part of the speedrunning community.
And then you can do a better one. And a better one after that, and a better one after that, and a better one after that, and a better one after that, and a better one after that, and a better one after that, and a better one after that, and a better one after that, and a better one after that, and a better one after that....
Local Man Realises The Actual Process Of Speedrunning
the good times don't pop out of nothing ya know
Just wondering why you decided to deem it a terrible speedrun? I've been considering picking up this game as well (Steam version)
The best way to get better at it is to screw it up. There are some things you might not realize until you actually do it. Recently, I was five hours into an HM64 run when I realized that the lumber bin had a cap and all the lumber I was chopping was disappearing into thin air. Good times.
(EDIT: I'm going to bookmark this game and come back to it. I'm tempted to take this thread as a personal challenge)
Sorry if this is considered necro-ing, but if any of the people here are interested in running this game still, I'm about to start charting a run starting next week, will be my first ever attempt at a speed run. I've been grinding out a high level character and jotting down some mental notes on tricks to move my character faster, and have save spots at some of the larger maps to time runs through each section segmented to prepare for an official run. I will happily mod the page if no one else wants to take that responsibility. I'd love to chat with some people on discord, compare notes, and trade streams. I'd love to do race some friends too ;)
Feel free to Friend request me on discord or PM me on here if you're interested.
@JudgeAlexander This game is also available on mobile and I have thought about running it before but it looked too big (long) so I never finished a playthrough. If you start routing and think there is a decent prospect of the run getting below the 1.5 hour mark please let me know and I will hopefully be able to join in and we could tackle routing together.
Edit: I have just YT'd it and there is a cheats-on speedrun over 3 hours so unless you find something huge, I'm out unfortunately. Sorry.
I just watched the vast majority of the cheat speed run, and... Honestly theres at least an hour's worth of improvement that can be made even with cheats off. He walked the entire way, and didn't use any summons to aggro enemies, stood still a lot, didn't skip skippable cut-scenes/conversations, sometimes even when he did skip, he waited for the cut-scene to be half over, etc. etc. etc.
I'm glad I watched this, as I now have a benchmark goal. If my first dry run is sub 2 hours, I will hit you up, good sir.
P.S. I own the PC, original Xbox and mobile versions of the game, and would gladly chart runs for all three if there are potential skips or glitches that only work on some of the platform's the game has.
Look at this camaraderie to tackle a new game, brings a tear to my eye. Good luck and Godspeed!
[Fs] If you let me have the link of your run I will watch it and when I get time I will try it out myself [fe]
Quick update, I'll be streaming my first attempt likely Monday or tuesday next week. I have the run mapped out and charted, but no real idea of how long it will really take. Waiting until then because I have a heavy workload this weekend, and I'm casually going after all the achievements on the steam version while i practice certain tech and keep my eye out for any more.
That's awesome! Definitely inspired me to ask the community if I'm really stuck on a run. :)
Uh
Second update, I'm having some control issues on the PC version of the game. I reached out to the dev team, they said they are looking into it and will get back to me, but this puts a delay on my first run. I think it's a windows 10 issue, if I don't get a fix soon, I'll be purchasing a capture card and running the Xbox version of the game.
