So I am going to stream the speedrun. But I don't have much idea about the timer. How does it work? Do I put a hotkey for it on my OBS? Is it okay if I start the timer early? I am trying to speedrun something that haven't been done yet. So starting a bit early won't matter much to me.
I don't quite understand what you are talking about. But usually the start of the timer is determined according to the category, so you can bind hotkeys for life split for your convenience. In any case, moderation always re-checks the time and changes it in case of an error
You can start the timing whenever you want because the mods of the game will correct the time but if your speedrunning a game that doesn't exist then request it in https://www.speedrun.com/knowledgebase/supporthub
A speedrun timer is a tool used by speedrunners to time their runs and track their progress. It is typically a stopwatch or a digital timer that displays the time elapsed since the start of the run.
To use a speedrun timer in OBS, you can add it as a separate source in your scene. There are several free timer programs available online, such as LiveSplit or WSplit, which you can use for your stream. You can add a hotkey in the timer program to start and stop the timer, which you can then use in OBS.
However, it is not recommended to start the timer early, as it can affect the accuracy of your run and may not be considered a valid speedrun. It's best to start the timer when you begin the actual run to ensure accuracy and fairness. If you want to practice the run before starting the timer, you can do so without the timer running.
Remember that speedrunning is all about challenging yourself to complete the game or challenge as quickly as possible, while following the rules and guidelines set by the speedrunning community. So it's important to strive for accuracy and fairness in your runs to ensure that your achievements are recognized and respected by the community.
@WonderWise66, you can find the download on OBS's download page https://obsproject.com/download
This website can also be easily found by using a search engine
Just one more thing I went to live split but I’m not sure what to do after I download it?..
Never mind I just watched a tutorial:)
Exactly the forum I needed! Thank you for the question & feedback, all. Oh, and I'm Sync. I've taken a LONG hiatus from entering Melee tournaments and until a year ago, from gaming in general, but with the release of the Remake I've fallen in love with the first video game I ever played all over again :] I recently submitted my first speedrun ever - a 02:42:58.399 on any% by my watch - and now relieved to see that I didn't need a timer to be visible for it to count; pun intended. I've got OBS, Near[Sync/Stream], and all the hardware I'll need to get a decent overlay + player cam eventually, though - along with hopefully a faster run. I'll give you all a more personal greeting then, but for now: Hi! :)
