With the Colors of Rot - DLC released, all runs on game versions before 1.10.3 have now been moved into the "Legacy Runs" category.
Runners are welcome to submit runs with older game versions to those Legacy categories, while every run moving forward can be submitted regularely.
If there are no more DLC or major game changes, this will be the final structuring for now.
cheers
Welcome to the Darkest Dungeon II speedrun community!
As the game remains in Early Access for the time being, changes will be made to the categories as new things emerge and come up.
We usually have our conversations over on the Darkest Dungeon Speedrunning discord, feel free to join and have a chat :)
Hello dear reader!
Be aware that this community is quite new and small and not a lot of things are refined and fully developed yet.
For now, the categories are separated into Any%, Low% and 100%. All categories feature a leaderboard for Glitched and Glitchless runs, please refer to each run's rules to see what is allowed and what isn't :)
Over the next days and weeks I'll be working on stuff like route-maps, small videos of tricks and glitches and more.
Feel free to join us on the official discord in the #speedrunning channel :)
Hello all!
As you might've been aware, we found that the discovery of the TSplit had such a huge impact on the runs, we needed to seperate things. Since we couldn't have two leaderboards like the old one - I restructured the whole thing.
Below you find a list of all the changes that happened:
-
almost all single-boss categories can now be found on the individual-level leaderboard while the longer categories are now set up on the full-game leaderboard.
-
most categories can now be submitted as either Single Client or Multi Client run.
*note: we decided to give the wandering bosses (collector, shambler..) their own category without Single/Multi Client distinction, since these are meme-ish categories anyway and would probably not really benefit from using the TSplit. *
- added a new category "Shrieker" and "Vvulf" to the IL-Board
*note: we thought these two ones were missing, and took the opportunity to add them - happy running! *
- the "Old Road" and "Necromancer Open" categories have been moved to the "Misc" board on the full-game leaderboard.
-
every ruleset now contains a sentence that prohibits the runner from using mods, as well as clarifying that if mods are installed, the mod-window has to be shown as well during file creation.
-
cleared up the rulesets to have them consistent throughout all categories.
*note: since our stance on mods always has been "no mods allowed" - I took the opportunity to clarify it in the rulesets as well, since it was a rule the community had agreed on anyway, but wasn't written down anywhere. *
-
the Single/Multi Client variable is gone (for good).
-
the "Framerate" variable has been changed to either "60" or ">60", since there was no real point to have any more than these.
That's it!
I would very much like to hear your feedback on everything - so we can discuss if there need to be further changes!
If you find that one of your runs is missing now, please hit me up on discord so we can fix that!
thank you all for reading and BlessRNG to all our runs :)
Hey fellow runners!
As it is basically tradition, our dear friend Tricrow found a new glitch - that will basically change/shorten ALL our categories.
Update (Jan 13th): The overhaul of the categories/leaderboards is done and live.
*Update (Jan 10th): I've tried to compile the information that has been found so far for this glitch below. I'll do a video tutorial on it in the next couple of days as well. For now, when you submit a run that uses this glitch, check that the "Multi Client" flag is set to YES when submitting. Since our leaderboards are pretty cluttered with all the categories, we might give the whole thing an overhaul in the next days, so we can have a seperate board for the runs using this glitch - since its so game breaking. *
Also big shoutout to Unlocked, who found the experience duplication, as well as the consistent setups!!
It enables us to duplicate items, heirlooms, trinkets and hero experience and progress areas much faster than before.
First, it's important to note, that we need 2 instances of Darkest Dungeon at the same time, which can only be achieved via launching the game in the nosteam version, which is usually located somewhere around xxxx\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon_windowsnosteam\ on your hard drive.
the setup then is as follows:
- In game #1 you start the and complete the mission you want to duplicate the rewards from, but don't return to the hamlet in the end, stay in the mission.
- boot up game #2 and load into the same save file.
- complete mission in game #2.
- back in the hamlet, do anything you like - if anything at all (town/hero upgrades, sell/buy trinkets, hire new heroes...)
- switch back to game #1 and exit and enter a room to trigger a re-save
- switch back to game #2, open the trinket inventory and click "Unequip All Trinkets", confirm the dialog that might pop up
- close the trinket inventory and exit to the main menu without doing anything else (hit ESC, then Exit to Menu)
- if you by accident click embark or open any other window, go back to step 2) and repeat everything from there.
- load your save file in game #2.
you'll end up in the duplicated mission (from game #1) again, you can complete it immediately again, but we keep everything we had in the hamlet, as well as the experience on the heroes.
- repeat from step 2) as many times as you want/need.
Here is a video of the glitch in action:
Since we don't know for sure how it exactly works, we can only guess - but our best guess so far is this:
The game saves different parts of the game at different times and they are split roughly in the following three parts
- the hamlet
- the "raid" (as in the dungeon you are currently in)
- the roster
by triggering a resave in game client #1, you update the current location back to the mission you are in, but it doesn't save the hamlet or roster. unequipping all trinkets saves the hamlet and the roster, but not the active mission.
-
If you have booted up your 2nd game client before you had game #1 prepared (completed the mission you want to tsplit on), you can trigger an update of the save file list when you hit ESC in the main menu and click "Watch Intro Cinematic". You can skip the cinematic immediately, and the save file will have updated and should show the correct area you are in. After that, you will only need to do this again if you start tsplitting again after continuing the run (for example in Any%).
-
you can also switch out the "active" heroes of the mission while in the hamlet. This will result in the newly switched in heroes getting the expierience and not the actual heroes that are on the mission. So you can level heroes on your roster without them actually being in the mission. (thx Unlocked for this find as well)
Hey there, I wanted to propose a discussion about updating the rules for the runs using the Crimson Court DLC.
All the runs (croc, fanatic) have specified in the rules that we only use the Crimson Court DLC and no other DLCs.
Thats fine and all, but I thought why would we disable the Flagellant? Sure, in the past he was pretty OP, but since CoM he has been tuned down quite a bit, so he is now a good, balanced hero (in my opinion at least). He is also actually part of the Crimson Court DLC - it is only that it is technically displayed ingame as another DLC, but has other than adding the flag no effect on the game itself (no hidden buffs/debuffs/etc.).
So my point is, could we allow the Flag to also be enabled for the Crimson Court runs? He wouldn't break anything and would actually give some more variety to us runners running :)
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this, as I thought it would be a good opportunity to change some more things up (in the face of moderator changes)
cheers
right before I left for my vacation I took a look at the Necro% open category. I tried a run but immediatly noticed one thing - when you come to the hamlet after the old road, you're supposed to summon in heroes an trinkets via a seperate window opened by pressing enter while on the stagecoach or nomad wagon screen.
So here comes the problem: when you open the seperate wimdow and want to type in names of heroes or trinkets - it just spits out gibberish and doesn't work.
A quick search on the internet revealed, that with the august patch - there was a bug introduced that messes up the backer heroes/trinkets windows. You can "fix" it by restarting the game - which works but for the sake of speedrunning, as long as this bug isn't fixed - we can't run and compare our times properly, as each run from now on till the bugfix, will have 1 min or so disadvantage due to the restart :/
So what do we do? Just not run it? Give it a new category?(seems too much)
