So what categories and rules should there be for the long dark? I've been running for 2 weeks now and EP1 is definately the most fun and RNG-free thing so it would be cool to see EP1 as its own category even when the full story is released.
I tried a few runs of EP2 and it's around 45-50 minutes of mostly running between long distance objectives. Defo less exciting than EP1 but the bear hunt gives it some potential.
From challenges I've tried hopeless rescue seriously and it's pretty good but you can lose/win 1-2 minutes to RNG because the entire world's loot is different every time. There are some places with guaranteed food/wood of some kind though (farmhouse, burned house basement, mountaineer hut)
IMO the best setup right now would be EP1 and then a dropdown menu titled 'challenges' that has all 5 of them.
Also where should EP1 timing begin? I see some runs start it instantly when they select it from the menu, I start when the character stands up. Maybe when the game starts to fade in after "Hinterland presents" would be a good spot to start?
I'd say the episodes should be individual in their categories, eg Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3 (when released)... Challenges should be their own category as well.
EP1 timing I start on first input, which is pulling the scrap metal from your hand; I end timing when I see the bear.
Episodes should be individual categories, but i think we can add an extra category for a full game run. I dont think i will run it, but maybe there are some persons who are crazy enough
I wouldn't mind doing one or two full game runs every week. Not as crazy as the GTA San Andreas runners who do 15 hour 100% runs :P
I started timer when wolf (loading icon) disappeared and stopped when wolf appeared. I think it could work. Time will be without loading time and it is simple. Every episode will have own category. I will add challenges too, but do not know too much about challenges.
Is there a way to record without loading times or do we have to count manually after we finished recording?
Make a new thread with it please. I will maybe try something too. But now I will not be here for almost week. Do you want The Hunted Part One and Part Two together or not? Edit: And last thing is about any% and 100%. There are some challenges, but it is just going around, so I do not know if anybody want to do it.
The hunted has a 3rd part on the way IIRC, so they should either stay separate, or add the combined category after all 3 are out. I'd prefer the combined run just to keep the number of categories lower.
100% full story sounds good as long as it doesn't become over 10 hours long. For individual episodes 100% is pointless IMO.
Sure, I will add you and I will add rules. But add runs before this day anyway. It is just few seconds and I hope we can save minutes, but stick to rules please in next runs. Edit: I think wolf loading icon is best, because it is easy visible. Do not know how to say it. It is hard to say when hinterland logo fade out or when you can move because you must take that iron from your hand and it was little bit hard to tell when you can point with mouse to that scrap. Still lots of updates coming out so it will be interesting too.
It looks like you only used level-leaderboards. You should simply put a classic leaderboard with differents category (for example Episode 1 Any%, Episode 2 Any%, Challenge with differents subcategories ...) ^^
Challenges need subcategories? Edit: I set it like any other episodic games.
Heya, long time no speak. I was wondering if there could be a interloper speedrun category? I've done several loper runs recently and the loot seems to be loosely scripted so that every run can end up with exactly 10 C warmth in non-craftable clothes slots, and then 20,5 C from full animal skin clothes, so a total of 30,5 warmth bonus. Maybe the run's goal could be to reach 30 C warmth bonus as fast as possible?
From my estimates this run would be around 3-6 hours long. There's guaranteed flare guns in ravine and timberwolf summit that can be used to kill bears, and also the timberwolf cargo containers are guaranteed to give 1 wool toque, 1 earwarmer and wool socks. The rest of the non-craftable slot gear can be found fairly consistently from looting CH houses, dam, PV house/farm/radio tower and hunting lodge/railyard.
So overall you spawn with 1,5 C non-craftable gear, cargo containers guarantee another 3,5 C, and the 20,5 C from animal skin clothes is almost completely RNG free because a lot of deer carcasses are always in the same spot, rabbits are in the same spots every time, and same for bears. Only the remaining 4,5 C non-craftable clothes would rely on RNG but in my last 3 runs I got them every time from looting all the shelters I mentioned in the last paragraph.
Several runs in the Death% Category are being reviewed to try and tighten them up. Several runs have also had times adjusted due to timers starting too late, stopping too early, or even too late.
