What happened to the leaderboard?
I sent a time for the duckstation catgeory but it just disappeared.
It has been discovered by myself that Duckstation is still able to be manipulated whilst showing 100% settings. On that basis, and that basis alone, the category is no longer tenable. Sorry to all the runners who took took time and effort into getting their names on the leaderboard. If emu is the path you would like to go down then GCN EMU or GCN EMU/DOOR SKIP offer a healthy alternative. Sorry again for the inconvenience this may have caused. However, we simply cannot accept a category where manipulation is possible.
Everything can be manipulated with enough motivation? Or are you saying that manipulations in duckstation are undetectable? Not allowing PS1 emulation at all in the leaderboards is a huge blow
You can show the correct settings, change them at the title screen and it will still display the settings you're supposed to have, even if you've changed them, if that makes sense.
It would be obvious, but you could make minor changes and get a free WR. It isn't fair on anybody running.
The issue is, it's a broken emulator that can force cheating which can either be easily detectable or hard too detect. Either way, it's broken and untenable. With all due respect, I'm not sure how it's a huge blow when other superior versions are available in abundance and in accordance with the rules. I had the WR for this category on the old board and although it was sad I lost my record, I completely understand the logic behind the decision. It's not fair on anybody running it and have proven why.
Makes sense to be fair.
Call me old school but I think I just prefer playing the original game rather than a modded version and it just so happened that ps emu was the readily available one to me without needing extra setup or hardware.
Guessing all other ps emu are the same?
Might move over to remake if we're set on ps emu being too much of a hassle to have a leaderboard for.
At least I can say I was a record holder once upon a time haha!
1:03 is only possible because of some crazy settings, he saved maybe 10 minutes from settings alone, but if you tweak the settings just slightly, you can give yourself an edge over other runners, and our "proof" of settings is null and void because you can change settings once you reach the title screen and it'd appear like you didn't cheat and followed the rules.
Theres no real way of knowing which settings were used unless it's blatantly obvious like 2K's 1:03 example above.
Playstation Emulation sucks, Dolphin Emulator is much better for gamecube and it's actually an even playing field, there's 2 categories to choose from, Dolphin vanilla and Dolphin doorskip and it also has an autosplitter.
question about playstation-emulation: do any of the settings increase run-speed, besides emulation-speed?
If not, then couldn't there be a leaderboard where all settings are limitless except emulation-speed?
Personally, only way I could see a viable option is to require a splitter in the recording. From my times, the splitter was coming out 1min faster (pretty much bang on) than in game time every time... Surely if someone is doing something to bugger the IGT, the splitter timer would show this?
Just food for thought...
To be honest though, other than me and 2 other runners, the duckstation board was void of runs for like a month solid at least... The new PC mod filled up in a day. Let's face it folks, from the mods point of view, what's the point of having a board with barely any interest that is a hassle to verify?
As sad as it is, there is logic there.
