so i would like to start my adventure with celeste speedruns but i would need some advice the first thing it will be my first speedrunning game so I don't know where to learn all this movement and strategy next I don't know what to play on I played the game on a keyboard but I don't know if the controller is better for speedruns I know these are basic issues but I would like to anyway I need some help
there is a great community in the celeste discord to chat about speedrunning and has a lot of information/resources, I suggest joining that, as for whether to use controller or keyboard, it doesn't really matter, top players use both so just use whatever you find more comfortable, enjoy
There's a dedicated speedrunning section in the celeste discord, you can ask for help there (preferably in the #speedrun_help channel). Looking through the pinned messages should have plenty of resources, you can always ask if you're not sure about something. Have fun!
Wholeheartedly agree with what everyone has mentioned already - the Discord is a great place and people are super encouraging and willing to help with absolutely anything.
I'm not sure how far you're wanting to take your speedruns, but for myself I found just playing the game over again is the most natural way to improve (make sure you learn a route comfortable for you!! And that you know whether to go up or right at "this" place, etc). Of course, you could always speed this up by looking at tech (which I would highly recommend). Looking at runs that are at your skill level or slightly better on the leaderboard and taking notes about what they do differently and where they lose/gain time compared to you will be very beneficial and gives you a sense of what chapters you need to focus on to put yourself further ahead of competition.
I'll also add on at the end here that I cannot recommend doing the B and C-sides (and Farewell if you're up for it) enough. I went from I think pretty consistent 1:05:XX to 0:55:XX with no changes (or any% practice) other than the fact that I completed the C-sides. Tech is great and all, but the real power is how good your movement is - it can feel clean at the time, but after seeing that improvement in my own runs, I realised how sloppy I'd been.
Best of luck! And most of all, have fun!
