Hey, I started speedrunning sm 64 a few weeks ago. Everything works really well except that I've never gotten the blj before. Can someone tell me what exactly I'm doing wrong? Here is a video of what it looks like:
You definitely have to mash faster. If you're a beginner it may be easier for you to mash in runs with your index finger, and practise thomb mashing outside the runs
It may possibly cost you to press the A button 8.5 times to be able to do the blj if you are new to SM64 speedruning. I think that with practice you will achieve it
There's something not so many peoples know but there's multiple way to BLJ up that stair, 1, timing every a press (Remember that for every BLJ Alway hold Z ) This is much harder but will make you gain speed consistently on a much higner count, You can mash 8.5 times a second or 12 times a second which is a slightly easier option but if you're a beginner it's gonna be hard ofc. pratice will solve it. or.. you can do the Mash with two fingers method, basically you mash quickly by doing a press with one finger and another at a fast rate. this is easier than it apear to be. it is my method of BLJ personally, remember to alway keep the same rate/speed you mash And pratice. if you do the two finger method well enough, as soon as mario go throught the door you go back to using your thumb for the A button you then move yourself in a way so you doesn't get stuck in a wall of course, and you should be fine.
I'm not exactly into technicality, but I know that those stairs are more difficult to BLJ on. I know from experience. I got the game in summer 2019 and didn't get a BLJ until January or February 2020. My advice is to practice the BLJ on the stairs before the Bowser level, rather than before the 50-star door. Trust me. They're much easier.
I didn't see the thread is weeks old, I just got a notification somebody wrote something in this thread and then I asked why people spell BLJ wrong no reason to offend me
We would like to announce that VC and EMU subcategories are now active on the Stage RTA leaderboards (under "Levels"). Stage RTA involves collecting all the stars in a given stage including the 100 coin star. Timing starts on star select and ends upon collecting the final star. You are allowed to us
