What about a "pure" run?

Would there be a possibility for a new category that foregoes ¤all¤ glitches in the game? Rather than trying to fenangle with a category based on what kinds of glitches are too gamebreaking and which are only minutely gamebreaking, we could just make a new category that just doesn't allow glitches in general. This way, nobody loses their times on the glitchless run either. I know that this would be the category that I'd personally enjoy the most, and it sounds like there's at least a couple who would enjoy this run the most as well. On top of that, it's aesthetically pleasing and shows off fast routes of the intended game. This category would also be much more marathon-friendly, were this game to show up on a GDQ or any kind of speedrunning livestream, since it doesn't rely on a dozen couple-frame tricks that simply make or break a run, considering how much time the backup strats generally lose compared to those in other popular speedruns.

Since this involves more than just superjumps, I figured it should be in it's own thread, and it also brings up a new point that I want to ask about what qualifies as a glitch. Should everything on this page, http://www.speedrun.com/DeadCore/guide/nzubj, be ruled out? Can we accurately judge what is or isn't a dashjump? Should the new cube boost that Sigma posted about be allowed or not? This is all assuming that the category is created, of course, but I would be really excited if it was.

Well that would be quite hard to define, and really defeats the purpose of a speedrun. Say, what if new strats are found that would make it faster, but less "glitched". I really don't think that would work out.

If you want to run a category like that i don't see why we'd stop you. I perfectly understand your intent. We'll have to find a name for it. I'm not sure we can define dash jumps / superjumps as "glitchs". I don't even know the concrete definition of a glitch, if it's something not intended by the devs simply or if it's more complicated than that.

Personally, if there's a new category i'd like, it'd be a "no almost frame perfect %". So everything would be accepted except almost frame perfect jumps ((dash)superjumps / megajumps). All the boosts (curve/corner), dash jump, wall fling and wall clip would be accepted.

Superjump definitely counts as a glitch. It seems very unlikely that a trick with a 20ms window which allows you to bypass large portions of a level was intended by the developers. I think that if this category is created it should definitely disallow all glitches. It's already pretty arbitrary to have a category which only disallows two specific glitches, but no glitches at all is a nice, well-defined category.

If there's interest in such a category, then it seems silly not to call it "glitchless". I think the best thing to do would be to rename the existing "glitchless" categories to something like "no megajump, no wallclip", and name the new category "glitchless".

The other question is whether it would be NG reset or NG+. We could have both I suppose.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to be running it either way, it'd just be great to make it a category so that we can compete in the category. Especially since my college is doing a 24-hour thing for Extra-Life. It'd be cool to get a top 3 or record live on stream, even if the game isn't populated :D
