Better RTA timings for TAS

Ok, I know this question would be better asked on tasvideos, but I don’t have an account for that. I want to know to how count tool assisted superplays with RTA timing. Using the method of counting frames from the moment the 400 appears and when you hit the axe always is wrong, for example, happylees TAS wasn’t I think 4:54.03, but it was counted as 4:57.31 I had gotten a 4:58.xx, but that was using the “wrong” timing. How do I count time the RTA way? Thanks.

TAS probably starts when it selects one player instead of when it starts to play as Mario, since it's 2.5 - 2.7 seconds for each level to load (live count, stage title, etc.). The difference between 4:54.03 and 4:57.31 is 2.7 seconds apart. (I counted backwards. lol)

So your saying, take the 4:58.xx, subtract 2.7 and get the correct time of 4:55/56? If so, thanks.

Also, I get it now, I was timing correctly the whole time (99% sure) but my gas was slow. I did start the frame count when the timer said 400, and ended upon hitting the axe like I said. Lol

Ok yeah I took the 4:54.03, multiplied by 60 to get the frames, added the startup frames (difference of the 2 times) divided by 60, and got exactly 4:57.31 Thanks!

No problem!

4:57.31-4:54.03=3.28 What?

I’m confused as to where people are getting 2.x from

In this case the difference is so small that you still get the correct distance. 196 frames equals 3.27 whether you divide by 60 or 60.09881 (it’s actually 3.27, not 3.28; I’m assuming that the ms make a rounding difference).

RTA timing starts the first frame the time on the top right says "400" in 1-1. and ends the frame all sprites disappear after touching the axe in 8-4.

The difference between RTA and TAS timing is 3.27 seconds, not 2.5-2.7 seconds. That’s what I’m trying to say.
