Following more than 100 games?

I used to be able to follow very large amounts of games, but since the major update a month or two ago I have been capped at 100. Trying to follow more gives a pop-up error saying "user cannot follow more games." Not sure why this cap was implemented, and it seems that there are some people with well over 100 games followed, presumably from before the update. Any way around this limitation?

There is no workaround. Based on staff responses it seems to be a technical limitation (probably to stop the notification system from getting overloaded, if I had to guess).

That's unfortunate. There's no plans to change or address this?

We want to increase the limit eventually, but there are indeed a couple of technical limitations that we need to overcome first.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to follow so many games? I'm wondering if there's an alternate solution that might be more appropriate.

I use Followed Games as a to-do list that allows me to easily keep up-to-date with various happenings (new records, news etc) in all of them. I have also just run a fairly large variety of games and that number increases on a weekly basis.

In addition to the roughly 100 games that I actually speedrun, I follow games I've played casually but don't run, the category extensions leaderboards for those games, and other popular games like Super Mario Odyssey, Celeste, etc.

"why do you want to follow so many games?"

I like to go window shopping looking for potential games to run, so I follow them so I can go back to them later and look at the leaderboards, forum posts, guides, etc. Also I happen to run a lot of games. (I follow 450 games and I'm locked out of following any more.)

"Why do you want to follow so many games?" A lot of games I know of but don't own have active speedrunning communities that I would love to watch, but I can't keep track of them all since I'm capped at 100.

Personally for me as a Sonic speedrunner, there are over 100 games. There are so many obscure ones which I follow and run like Java mobile games, tiger electronic, etc. That's not even including cat ex and fan games. I don't just follow Sonic as well. If you are someone who is into a large franchise (Sonic, Mario, Zelda, Mega Man) they can easily go over the 100 follow limit

Hello all! I follow some streamers that are running SM:RPG remake and I wanted to follow it until I got the error mentionned above with the 100 limit, so here I am!

As some mentionned, I am a casual speedrunner (about 7-8 games) but I enjoy watching a lot and there are very active communities out there. The reason why I follow so much is curiosity mainly, or just having options when I'm bored and not sure what to watch. Hope there is a solution / alternative eventually, keep up the good work!

Camcorder: I'll add another two cents to this because my specific use for the follow function I don't see mentioned above - I use it essentially to "pin" games, so I can quickly access them just by clicking the "Games" button at the top of the page. I don't care as much personally about getting notifications for them, so much as I like having them so easy to access. Sure, I could just use bookmarks to serve the same function, but I like having the game cover art as the clickable link, and keeping everything on the site itself.

I'm wondering if there are more people who use the follow function the same way I do. If so, perhaps you could consider having a "pin" function for games which would only make the games appear when you hit the "Games" button up top. I'm guessing that would avoid some (if not all) of the technical limitations associated with increasing the allowable count of followed games?

Just an idea.

I just want to add on to what I said earlier in this thread:

I currently can't follow all of the games that I am a moderator of. This is an issue, because I have no way of knowing if people are leaving comments, for example.

I also can't follow any new releases like Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Having my following count be arbitrarily restricted is super frustrating.

I only follow the ones that I know that I am going to play. Then, I unfollow them when I finish the game. And, that is how I do it and all of that stuff as well. But, I might get a lot more games done as well. I am still not too sure though. It is just a tough thing to do right now. Cause, I have a lot of favorite games to play. And, I don't want to unfollow my favorite games. But, I have to when I finish the game. Or, it is just going to be stupid to have it on there if I am not going to play it again. That is just me and my opinion.

The main goal is to receive notifications when there is a new WR. Getting to know about new speedruns is the reason we are using this site and shouldn't be limited in any way. Just like on youtube why would we only follow 100.

Having to unfollow can be really bad as we would tend to unfollow least famous games with less activity, which can make it harder for these games to build a community.

100 is a low and arbitrary and abyssmal amount, I moderate over 60 games and have runs in much more than 100, it is unfortunate as I am locked out of following the Athena Crisis game to have a chance at winning a free copy

Apologies for the lengthy delay. Today we increased this limit from 100 to 400.
