Hi Road Rash 64 community. BTW no this isn't a post to get the category onto the board :P! I love using my imagination and coming up with my own categories. I would love to hear your opinion on this one. I came up with a category called Big Game, No MORSC(Major Off Road Short Cuts). Now in most runs that I saw I usually see speedrunners going off road and completely driving off course to get to another road farther way closer to the finish line. In this category you are not allowed to do that. Here's whats allowed though. For example, on smaller zig zags, you can stay going straight and get off the road to avoid turning. Also on sharp 90 degree turns, you can go off the road to avoid having to slow down on those hard turns. In my opinion those don't count as major off road shortcuts. I would like your opinions please :)
I wouldn't be opposed to a no major shortcuts version of each category. You'd need some pretty concrete definitions of major offroad shortcuts since even minor ones can trigger the 'cheat much?' type of messages.
Hoping this community can grow a bit so we can get more people on board with such ideas.
Over the last week I’ve found out how to use major shortcuts on almost all the races between level 3-5. So I think you are right, it’s time for a new category.
It seems like most of us have come to the same agreement by now. What do you guys think of the name "No Major Shortcuts"? We can define the rules to ban extensive shortcuts that finish a race off-road, and shortcuts that use Checkpoint Manipulation (triggering a later-checkpoint without triggering the subsequent cheating textbox, allowing you to crash your bike to respawn you at said-checkpoint). I don't feel like we can make it any more strict without adding random, arbitrary rules (like trying to ban shortcuts completely and saying 'no going off-road, period').
I think we could easily add this for Scooters too. Insanity would be awesome to add, but I have no idea how to properly define a major shortcut other than 'don't be off-road for X amount of time/distance', which feels too arbitrary. Let me know here if you guys are ok with everything and I can add the categories. I think we've all talked separately but I feel more comfortable with a central place to get the ok to change.
I agree with the proposal for the separate Big Game ruleset. No major shortcuts or maybe glitchless for the name, since I'd classify the respawn cut as a glitch.
Insanity I'd see being harder to police a no shortcuts category since half the time you're in the stratosphere at 320mph and even stuff like the strat I use on Pretty Blue can simply happen by accident if you're reacting to a bad spawn. I think an explicit ban on the skips in Crashmaster 3000, Impossible Dream, Marathon, etc. would be good for such a category, but could easily cascade into being a 14,000 word document reviewed by a lawyer to come to concrete definitions on what's allowed.
Down for all 3 to have their own 'no skips' category but I'm personally not super fussed on the shorter 2 runs having a separate no skip category. Though a Scooter Mode no cuts run sounds omega fun but cursed for trying to get on pace with 20 mins rubbing shoulders with Dane and Cormac, those fuckers end 90% of my runs lmao
