Emulators

I would like to see a separate category for emulators. Sp0ck1's times could be way lower if he shot close to under par.

After some timing, it looks like loads on RetroArch are around a half second to three quarter seconds faster between holes, meaning a "free" 8.5-12.75 seconds on emulator overall.

I'm not certain if shots are faster or not; they may be very slightly.

Intersesting. Thanks for the research!! I'm sure it is hard to really figure out how much the time difference is.

We discussed it and agreed.

Here's another comparison:

Settings:

Hole 7, from the tee 3 Iron Right-side hole 5-star all-abilities golfer Default clubs Female caddie Exciting camera No Easy Shot

Ball flight is defined as time from contact to the ball until distance text overlay appears.

Data:

Console No A+B: 6.717 s Console A+B: 5.184 s Emulator A+B (Retroarch Mupen64Plus-Next OpenGL 2.0 commit: 0df37ed): 2.600s

Analysis:

Emulator shows substantially reduced ball flight time while holding the A and B buttons. A+B on console does not show substantial speedup here until the ball makes contact with the ground. The ball in Console A+B is beyond the creek when Console No A+B first reaches the creek, although it is unclear if this is due to the wind difference of 4 MPH.

Precursory visual analysis of other shots, not shown in the video, reveals that the ball flight difference with emulator is most pronounced with irons and wedges, much less pronounced with woods, and virtually identical with putts. Ball altitude is a major factor.
