Boktai 2 Walkthrough

When I mention things here, this is what I mean: • North, East, South and West all refer to the game’s definition of these terms (thanks to the isometric view), which when viewing the game correspond to Up-Right, Down-Right, Down-Left and Up-Left • “Exit” means a screen transition. If I do not specify a direction to exit, it is most likely a dead-end room; exit the way you came in. • Some things are optimized, most are not; be aware that many changes will be made • This does not include any level-up directions or weapon acquirement, both of which would be required in an actual run • I have not included all items in screen directions, only those that I think would be of value

Before starting: • Date setting : august 1st 2004 (10 pm); this gives you moon bugs and is needed

Intro: City Limits • Avoid spider webs until vampire encounter • Watch cutscene • Go up ramp, avoid enemies until Trap! room • Go east to pick up Gradius • Fight skeleton, level up • Go until next Trap! room, avoid skeletons • Hit zombie 3 times, trigger cutscene • Kill zombie, head into San Miguel Part I: Cathedral • Head north, trigger cutscene, get Flame Enchantment • North 1 screen, trigger cutscene • Enter Cathedral • Maze: Push rock north, go east, push wood block north, go west, push rock west, go north, around to courtyard • Go east to hammer screen • Wood block puzzle (Block straight ahead is (1), other is (2)): Move (1) north, (2) east, (2) south one square, go up stairs to grab Club, return to maze • Equip hammer, break wooden block, push first rock forward, other block east, then all the way south, go east, break wooden block, continue on to graveyard • Push 2nd tomb in closest row, 1st tomb in next row, 2nd tomb in final row, go underground • Push wooden block onto weight switch • Sneak past Boks, exit (chest with solar fruit) • Sneak past Boks, exit • Sneak past zombie, exit (will be trapped if zombie notices you) • Light candles with sword (just go straight north), exit • Wooden block puzzle (Closest block is (1), farther is (2)): Move (1) south one square, move (1) west three squares, move (2) east two squares, move (1) west one square, hit the blue lamp, exit • Light candles with sword, hit switch with hammer, exit • Light candle with sword, shimmy across, light other candle with sword, exit east • Board lift, hit switches with hammer on way up, exit • Kill skeletons in main room, grab yellow crystal, head to the bottom western room • Lure Bok onto weight switch, exit (chest with solar leaf) • Light candle, move wooden block two squares south, break other two wooden blocks, move first wooden block north, destroy all other wooden blocks, except the last one, grab the key, insert the Yellow crystal, return to main room • Use Triangle Key • Pick up Red Crystal from random spawn in window light, go upstairs • Trap!, kill 3 Boks and the zombie, exit west • Drop down to get spear, exit to bottom eastern room • Activate switch with spear, go upstairs • Light candle, insert Red Crystal, destroy a wood block to go upstairs • Light candle, navigate maze to activate hint panel, drop down on closest trap panel • Break wooden block, go down stairs • Go to Red Crystal room, light candle with spear, go downstairs • Shimmy across, go upstairs • Go to courtyard, destroy statues with spears (100 HP each), collect Blue Crystal, return to Red Crystal room • Go upstairs, shimmy across to library • Activate WORD in library (Bottom floor (closer to exit, middle shelf), mid-way (north side), bottom (closest to entrance), top (middle shelf) • Wooden block puzzle (top block is (1), the bottom ones are (2), (3), (4) from north to south): Move (1) east, then south, activate bottom blue lamp, break (4) and (3), move (1) east, then north all the way, move (2) north, activate blue lamp, grab key, exit east (chest with power nut) • Light candles with spear while on platform, move wooden block one square west, then north, move next wooden block west, then east, coming behind it, pushing it onto the weight switch, hit the blue lamp, get the Green Crystal, return to trap floor room (chest with solar fruit) • Insert Green Crystal, unlock door • Light candle, insert Blue Crystal, return to main room, go downstairs, fight Duneyrr • Go into wedge room, watch cutscene, exit (chest with The High Priestess) • Drag coffin back to weight switch room, top western room from main room • Place coffin in center, push block to north, stand on southern, go through center door • Pick up key, exit (3 chests with pounder, quarter staff and dull blade) • Drag coffin all the way to plaza • Hit generators with enchanted attacks and purify Duneyrr • During cutscene with Lita, choose first option

Part II: Remains • Go to the forge and talk to Smith to trigger cutscene, exit east • Hammer wooden block, enter Remains • Go up stairs to first room • Go west into next room and then up the stairs • Go into Trap! area and defeat the vampire bats, get past first yellow slime, defeat/lure second yellow slime, exit west • Push rock down and exit • Go north and navigate the wind/fire room, using flame enchantment sword to light the candle to progress • Watch Kid cutscene, choose first option, get Frost enchantment, exit south • Go through wind/fire room, go down nearest stairs after exit • Defeat fire with frost enchantment, exit west • Push rock into place, continue west • Melt ice with flame enchantment, exit (two chests with power nut and chocolate) • Freeze property block, exit • Trap! Defeat the Sword, exit (chest with Justice card) • Trap! Defeat the slimes, either by attacking or smushing them with rock blocks • Trap! Defeat the golems; you can provoke them to attack themselves to deal extra damage or leave them vulnerable to 2x damage, exit • Push rock block forward, grab the key, return to starting room • Use the key, exit east • Watch cutscene with Sabata, choose second option, get enchantment Cloud, exit east • Go upstairs, outside, exit north (chests with red/green potions, warp leaf) • Colored block puzzle: Blue south one, blue west one, blue south one, red east three, blue south two, blue north four, blue west two, exit • Hit property block with cloud sword to east, hit it with cloud spear to north, hit it with frost, exit north • Break rock block with cloud, pick up key, exit • Push rock block, exit west • Avoid skeleton, exit west • Break rock block with cloud, exit • Use key, exit west • Exit east, push rock block, exit • Avoid golems, exit down stairs • Exit east, push rock block into place, continue east • Exit north (two chests with speed nut and solar nut) • Colored Block puzzle: Red north one, Red west three, Blue south one, go over red tile to push Red north one, Blue east three, Green south one, Blue south one, Green west three, Red west one, Green south one, Purple north one, Green west one, Purple east three, Blue east one, Purple north one, Purple east one, exit (this strategy yielded the fastest time I could find; using a power nut speeds up the block-pushing animation—when adding menuing time, it saves about 12 seconds) • Sneak past mummies, exit • Bypass zombies and golem, exit • Exit south • Light mummy on fire with Flame, exit north staircase • Navigate slimes to get the key, exit (choosing to solve the puzzle to get the Glaive takes about 55 more seconds than just getting the key) • Exit south • Push rock block and exit east • Use the key, exit north • Defeat the Axe, exit (chests contain Dynamite, Justice card and a key) • Go south to initial room, then all the way east to use the key • Get Tasty Water and head into the desert • Three Stone Tablets may spawn in any of the eight areas surrounding the lock; all are in hidden chests; find all three, insert them into the lock and enter • Go down the stairs the east and exit • Light candles bottom-right, top-left, bottom-left, top-right, exit created stairs • Avoid golem, exit • Go the top western room • Attack property block with Flame, attack with Cloud to the west, then to the south with Cloud spear, exit to enter very east room • Attack first property block to the east with Cloud spear, attack other block to the east with Cloud spear, attack first block west, north, then west with Cloud spear, attack both blocks with Frost spear, exit to bottom eastern room • Attack the first lever, move southeast, then north to activate the weight switch, exit • Activate the switches, moving south, back north, west, south, then to the lever, hit it and exit • Head to the south and prepare for the Vampire fight • Fight Vampire • Drag the coffin back to San Miguel, avoiding enemies in the desert by going either straight west or south, then back to Remains A. Power nuts can speed this up. • Purify Django: sunscreen not needed at full sun if Django is kept in the center long enough

Part III: Dark City • Head east, then break the northern block and defeat the Darkness Root, exit north • Go east, then north to Dark City • Go to screens north, east, left north • Go around, avoid poison bees, shimmy past to exit east • Avoid Bandits, exit south • Go down ramp, exit east • Go east, exit north • Go north, then west, then exit north • Avoid Bandits, exit west • Head west, see cutscene, exit west • Enter top door to the north • Transform into mouse before you reach the hole, then enter • Transform back, go up the staircase • Kill or take hit from slime, exit south • Go up stairs • Transform into Bat, exit west • Exit west • Transform back and exit south • Transform into Mouse, take the lift and exit north • Transform back, sneak past or get hit by zombie and exit east • Push wooden block down, exit • When at mouse hole, transform, exit south • Transform back, get on lift and exit east • Head north to puddle, transform to bat just before puddle to skip cutscene, exit nearest door • Transform back, avoid the mummies, grab the key, exit south • Transform Bat, cross the puddle, transform back, exit east • Enter nearest door • Transform mouse, enter hole • Transform back, head upstairs • Unlock door, exit • Head downstairs • Avoid zombies and exit east • Go a bit north, exit west • Approach puddle, transform bat, cross, enter nearest door (may be faster to transform back, then to Bat again depending on Agility) • Get on lift, exit west • Exit west • Transform back, go downstairs • Exit closest door • Push wooden block, exit • Fall down ledges to exit south • Exit east • Transform into bat, go north to grab key, once back over weight switch, transform back and head to the closest east exit • Push wooden block, transform into Bat, cross the puddle, transform back, then enter the closest door • Use key, exit north • Go up the stairs, traverse the gaps either by shimmying or by transform bat(which is faster), then exit upstairs • Avoid specters, transform into bat, exit east • Go all the way south, then exit east • Go the south of the room to get the key and return west (it may be faster to transform back into human form if you can successfully avoid the mummies) • Exit the closest west window • Transform back, avoid specters and go downstairs • Head out the eastern door • Push the wooden block, exit • Take the lift down • Exit the southern door • Exit east • Go north, approach the weight switch, transform into Bat, cross the switch and the nearby puddle, transform back, use the key and exit • Board the lift (having fists equipped makes the into to Cheyenne marginally faster) • Choose the first dialogue option (both seem about the same), fight Cheyenne, return down the lift (you can get Tasty Meat, a Speed Nut and a Blueshroom from the fight) • Use the key on the door, exit • Go up the stairs (convenient invisible Tomato Juice) • Avoid mummies and specters, go upstairs • Avoid slimes and zombies, exit east • Head upstairs (another convenient invisible Tomato Juice) • Entrance Puzzle: Transform bat, west window, transform mouse, west hole, northern hole in wall, go across bridge, enter window, transform bat, enter closest window, transform back, exit north • Avoid zombies, head downstairs • Avoid mummies, exit east door • Heal if necessary, go down lift • Trigger cutscene, fight Durathror (wedge room has The Chariot) • Drag coffin into new southern room, place coffin on weight switch, push rock block to the north one square, take coffin and exit south • Put coffin on weight switch, cross the push the rock block north, retrieve the coffin and exit south • Shimmy across, push rock block south, get the coffin and place it on the weight switch, go around and push the closest wooden block west, go back around and push the other one one square south, go around again and push it west; grab the coffin and go up the stairs • Exit south • Avoid the bandits, exit through the farthest west exit • Exit south (easy Blood-Soaked Cape in hidden chest) • Defeat or lure green slime, go downstairs • Avoid zombies, exit west • Lure or kill zombie closest to exit, go upstairs • Put coffin on platform, activate lever with hammer, ride across and exit east • Break wooden block and push metal block south, all while dragging coffin, exit south • Avoid bandits, exit through bottom west exit • Drag the coffin back to just outside Dark City • Head south, then west, knocking a yellow slime out of the way, destroying the two wooden blocks, then killing the Dark Root, exiting west • Choose the first text option when talking to Zazie • Purify Durathror

Part IV: Aqueduct • Buy warp leafs until you have 3 from Lita, then buy the Solar Coffin from the coffin guy • Talk to Cheyenne and get Dash • Talk to Violet, follow Nero all the way to Aqueduct, talk to Ringo, get Earth, exit • Transform into Black Django and kill the northern Dark Roots, exit • Enter Cathedral and go straight north to the courtyard • Transform back to Red and use Healing on the western lily pads, exit west • Wind around, using healing on two lily pads, grab The Magician card and use a Warp Leaf • Exit east to the Plaza • Transform into Black Django and kill the eastern Dark Roots and exit • Go east hitting the yellow slime out of the way, then north to enter Dark City • Screen travel: north, east, north (left exit) • Go straight north, then go through the west door • Get on the platform, go downstairs • Avoid zombies, exit east • Avoid zombies, exit north (you can damage through zombies as Dark Django with minimal life loss) • Go north, hit the green slime out of the way, exit north • Exit east • Exit through the closer west exit • Transform back in Red Django, Property block Puzzle (The closest PB is 1, the other frozen PB is 2, the fire PB is 3): Push metal block one square north, destroy (2) with Earth, push metal block east into hole, hit (3) to east Cloud sword, hit (1) with Flame, hit (1) west Cloud spear, hit (1) north Cloud spear, hit (1) west Cloud spear twice, hit (3) east Cloud sword, hit (1) north Cloud sword, hit (1) west Cloud spear, hit (1) north Cloud spear, hit both with Frost spear, exit upstairs • Avoid mummies, exit south • Exit south • Go south, use Transform Bat on the gap, transform back and exit the west door • Head north and use transform mouse on the hole • Grab The Hermit card and choose the first option when talking to Lady, use a Warp Leaf when done • Head south, then a bit west and kill the Dark Root to exit south • Go east to enter Remains • Go all the way north until just before the axe battle room to the north, exit the farthest west exit • Exit north, not up the stairs • Exit north, again, not up the stairs • Transform back into Red Django, use Dynamite on the western most wall, more on the southern end, exit through the new exit • Transform into Black Django, kill the Dark Root and grab The Hierophant card, use a Warp Leaf to exit • Go directly the Aqueduct • Activate the door, watch the cutscene and exit west • Trap! Kill the purple slimes and exit west • Go up the stairs, then exit west • Trap! Kill the octopi and exit west • Go up the stairs and exit west • Trap! Kill the Skeleton Fencers and exit west • Prepare and then head west to start the Dvallin fight • Defeat Dvallin • Head across the rock bridge, exit west • Exit west • Go up the ramp and exit west • Avoid slimes, centipede, exit west • Go up the ramp and exit west • Exit west (invisible chest with power nut available) • Go up the ramp and exit east • Ride the rock platform east, exit north without the coffin • Take the Star Piece and exit (possible Strength card) • Take the coffin and use the warp square • Exit east • Exit east • Drag the coffin to the Piledriver through town • Purify Dvallin

Part V: Spiral Tower • Transform into Black Django, kill the Dark Root and exit north • Destroy the wooden block and exit north • Talk to Sabata after the initial cutscene and accept • Dark charge with Sabata, then solar charge with Django, enter Spiral Tower • Go up the stairs, avoiding the black slimes • Drop down the trap floor to the west • Activate the lever, return upstairs • Avoid other trap floors with Dash or high agility or go to the second tile row from the southern wall that has no traps, exit east • Shimmy across and exit east • Push the rock block and use a Warp Leaf • Return to the solar tower and use the first change magic square • Use Zero Shift to avoid the slimes and go upstairs • Go south, step on the weight switch and go upstairs • Head across, avoiding the golems and go upstairs • Zero Shift across the trap floors and Boks and go upstairs • Go up all the stairs, shimmy across and exit west • Activate the weight switch and use the change magic square • Go upstairs • Go south and exit up the stairs • Avoid the golems and go up the stairs • Go south, avoid the cockatrices and exit up the stairs (Warp Leaf in one of the chests) • Have sunlight and cross the light tiles to the east, then exit east • Activate the weight switch and go up the lift • Trap! Kill the Sword +, exit west (chest with The Emperor card) • Chest room, requiring Change Bat, Dynamite (x3), or Change Mouse respectively: Sunny Clog, The Fool, Skull Suit, Blueshroom and Bearnut. Exit south • Avoid the crows, go up the stairs and exit north • Avoid the specters and golems, exit south • Exit east • Hit the lever with a spear, use the change magic square • Go up the platform • Exit east • Go east and exit upstairs • Go around and exit west • Shoot the golem, exit east • Go back around, exit downstairs • Go around and go up the stairs • Go up the stairs • Kill the Bok, grab the key, unlock and exit the door • Enter the maze, shoot the lever and use the switch magic square to the west • Exit west • Go up the platform • Exit east • Go east and hit the lever, go west on the other path and use the switch magic square • Hit the lever, go north, east, north, use the switch magic square • Hit the lever, go to the east and use the switch magic square • Go around, hit the lever and use the switch magic square • Hit the rusty lever with the hammer, push the metal block south, exit west • Go west, hit the northern lever, exit west • Go west, use the northern most lever to drop a bomb when the mummy is close, then use the other levers one at a time, killing the mummy, grab the key, use the key at the eastern door and exit • Avoid the golem and exit east (invisible chests with tasty meat and warp leaf) • Use the platform and attack the levers with a spear, avoiding the flames, hit the weight switch and return, exit west • Go up the stairs • Check the hint switch for the block location, use the near switch magic square • Get out of the maze, exit east • Go east, use the lift • Rock Block Puzzle: Push first block east, next block north, next block west, the southern-most block east, travelling along the new path north, push the next block west, push the final block south three blocks, then push it two blocks west, exit west • Take the lift up • Exit east • Read the hint sign, hit the lever, use the switch magic square • Exit east • Push the metal block according to the hint blocks, kill the Axe + that spawns, exit west (chest with The Hanged Man card) • Get past the specter and golem and exit upstairs • Block Puzzle (Closest rock block is 1, the other is 2): Push (2) east two squares, push (1) south two squares, push (1) east one square, hit property block north Cloud spear, destroy block (1), push (2) east two squares, push (2) north two squares, push (2) west two squares, hit property block west Cloud spear, hit it again with Frost spear, exit up the stairs • Go up the stairs and take the lift up • Use sunlight to take the light tiles north and take the platform down • Avoid specters, hit the lever in the northwest corner • Go south, move the rock block into place and go downstairs • Exit east (automatically switch back to Sabata) • Go north and up the stairs • Zero Shift past the black slimes and go up the stairs • Hit the lever (can be done off-screen), go back downstairs • Zero Shift again, exit west • Prepare for Dainn and then exit north • Choose the second text option, defeat Dainn, exit south with coffin(chest with Wheel of Fortune) • Exit east • Take the warp panel (you can detour down one floor and use Earth on a property block to get the Magic Sword and the Scale Mail) • Take the coffin and exit south • Make your way south to the Piledriver • Purify Dainn

Part VI: Undead Zone • Grab the Broken Solar Gun and go south to Smith’s forgery • Talk to Smith to get the fixed Solar Gun along with an Astro weapon, if you like • Return to the outside of Spiral Tower, watch the cutscene and enter the Undead Zone • Go down the lift • Exit west • Lure skeletons with a knock on the wall and exit west • Exit north • Destroy cacti and avoid crows to exit north • Don’t get seen by the Skeletons to exit east • Go by the weight switch, wait for the mummy to go in front of the flame jet, go on the weight switch, then exit east • Avoid the skeletons, exit south • Block Puzzle (closer rock block is 1, the other is 2): Push (1) east, push (2) one square north, push (2) east three squares, hit the property block east Cloud spear, hit it south Cloud spear/sword, freeze the property block, exit south • Use sunlight to go on light tiles to exit west • Lure skeletons to exit west • Transform into Black Django, then into Bat, grab the key, transform back, use the key and exit west • Lure skeletons, exit north • Use sunlight, sneak around the back of the skeleton to exit north • Push the rock block, grab the key and exit east (you can Dynamite the wall next to the rock block to get The Star card) • Avoid the skeletons, exit east • Use the key on the north door, exit • Take the lift down • Trap! Defeat the Sand Worm, grab the key and return up the lift (chest with The Moon card) • Exit south • Use the key, exit south • Take the lift down • Go down the stairs and exit east • Lure the skeletons and light all 4 candles with Flame, exit east • Go through hallway and exit south (mouse transformation hole can give tasty meat and Blueshroom) • Avoid cockatrices and exit west • Avoid cockatrices and exit west • Light candles with Flame spear and exit west • Use sunlight to create light tiles and cross to exit north • Destroy wooden blocks with Hammer to exit north (can use Dynamite to the west to get the Garb of Darkness) • Exit north • Avoid skeletons, work your way upstairs, exit east • Take the platform to exit north • Trap! Kill the Lich, grab the key and take the platform back (chest with The Hanged Man card) • Use the key, exit south • Take the lift down • Exit west • Activate the lever, exit east • Exit south • Get close to the first ramp, then manage to go southwest to go to the second ramp, then straight west to exit • Avoid the skeletons and the specters the to exit west • Activate the lever, exit north • Fall down the ledge, exit east • Avoid golems, octopi, exit east • Drop down, exit south (possible speed nut before dropping down) • Do the same strategy in this room as before, but continue on to the farthest ramp and go southeast, then exit south • Slide south and east until hitting the ice block; go northwest, then exit west • Avoid the specter and exit west • Slide south and use the Gun del Sol on the western lever, then exit north • Hit the lever and exit north • Drop down and exit east (chest with speed nut before you drop down) • Avoid golem and exit south • Slide into ice block, then east to activate lever, then exit back north • Exit east • Exit south • Do previous strategy for this room, exit south • Do previous strategy for this room, exit west • Go around and exit south • Go up the grown plant and take the platform east • Trap! Kill the serpent, grab the key and take the northern platform (chest with the Death card) • Take the lift up • Work your way back to the main area, sliding and avoiding the Centipedes • Use the key, exit east • Take the lift down • Exit north • Exit east • Block Puzzle: Push the rock block east, hit property block with Flame, hit the property block north Cloud spear, then hit it east Cloud spear, destroy the rock block with Cloud, push the metal block two squares east, destroy the property block with Earth, touch the weight switch, exit west • Avoid the hellhound, exit north • Avoid the golems and exit east • Avoid the golems and exit east • Hit the nearest flame enemies with Frost spear and hit the lever with the Gun del Sol, exit west • Avoid the golems, exit south • Go up the stairs and exit east (there’s a lot of crystals and a hidden solar fruit to heal up) • Traverse the bushes to exit east • Avoid the hellhound to go around and exit through the other western exit (Parade Armor hidden by a Dynamite-able wall) • Exit south • Go down the stairs and exit east • Navigate the lava platforms to exit west • Avoid the golems, exit west • Get on the platform to go west • Trap! Kill the Lich +, exit west on the platform (chest with The Star card) • Go down the closest lift • Exit south • Go down all of the stairs, when the path splits, go down the southern path, then exit south • Go around, avoiding the Centipede and exit east • Go down the stairs and exit south • Go around the rocks and exit south • Avoid the skeleton and exit west • Go around and exit east • Avoid enemies, go downstairs and exit west • Use sunlight to get across and enter Jormungandr’s room • Defeat Jormungandr • Absorb sunlight until life returns to 0 • Stop timing upon life reaching zero and the white flash
