New Category: Chapter Specific Race Mode

the leaderboards already have a category wherein you load a chapter and just play straight through levels 1 through 20. you can find the category for each world by clicking level leaderboard, selecting the chapter, and then selecting "individual world" from the list.

however, it seems like race mode on the switch is rather different from that. this puts us in a bind, since nobody on the mod team actually has a switch, so we're hearing about race mode second-hand.. can you detail the glitch you found?

Has there even been a single switch run submitted for any category at all? It's a pain in the dick trying to record switch gameplay. For nearly every game, categories are only made after runs are completed and there is a need for it.

I agree. I'd say let him post his runs first and then create the category based on that; Just like if you were requesting a new game added to the site, you are first required to already have a speedrun video of the game.

Finland

Depends how many run the category. Not every category needs to have an entry on this site. The leaderboard is already quite cluttered as it is.

Also every miscellaneous category that does exist caters to pc players. Us console players do not have a category for us. So even if I couldn't compete I'd be happy to see a category for switch.

Finland

There is a reason why they all cater to pc players, just look at the distribution of players on pc vs on consoles.

The distribution is completely arbitrary because if it was directly related to the % of players there would be 1-2 console categories obviously because probably about 10% or more players are on console.

Edit: I'm not able to find exact console numbers for 2018.

When SMB was released it sold 33% as many copies on Xbox alone as it did on pc. Super meat boy was free on ps4 so it likely had many hundreds of thousands as well. And when it came out on the switch it produced the same numbers as when it was released on Xbox. About 2.5 million owners on pc and 1 million on console.

I meant the distribution of players on the leaderboards of course, the number of owned copies is irrelevant.

The vast majority of players are on PC here, the misc categories naturally catering more to pc players is just a consequence of that, because they were only created and ran by them (although light level and any% alt doesn't work only on pc). If five or ten console players had ran and asked for a spelunky% or something to be on there it would certainely. That's why Matte is saying only numbers of runners on the lbs count. They're the only ones that are gonna be involved and interested by those changes / discussions / new (misc) categories.

I think this doesn't have to be about console or pc specific categories (especially cause race mode is also coming to pc at some point); at best all categories are all inclusive but the current miscs often use 3rd parties or stuff you can't do on console, naija% has it's own savefile if you want to be competitive, Ogmo% uses third party to just run the category, ... But more about the actual interest regarding this possible new category (by those who can run) it as it was said prior to this.
