Understandable and thanks for the explanation. Didn't mean to shine a light badly on any of you I just didn't get the reasoning behind well.. no reason for the rejection. But I get it now and yeah these things can be annoying.
I have nothing to add and if you feel like you can delete the thread, or I myself can delete it later since it is no longer relevant.
Thanks for the answer, I accept the decision.
I'm just trying to understand why a simple reason can't be written as a rejection, compared to no reason. I understand now from mod side but I'm just trying to give my idea from my side. I was given no reason, to me it came off as ill-mannered, I was disappointed and I had to make a post about it.. even though I did not want to. I understand the amount of work the moderation team gets from these submissions, but to me this small step would have helped to understand more about the whole procedure and situation. That's all. Honestly, I'm totally fine with the reasoning behind the rejection now, but since I was given no reason I was just a bit confused.
Sorry if I came across as passive-aggressive, I just felt like this is a thing that can be improved generally but that's just my point of view.
I'm alright with these reasons, and I probably wouldn't have made a thread about it if I get a short reason like 'We rejected this game many times since it doesn't match our standards.' It's just one sentence that would make these things clear. I'm not entitled to suggest how to run the game moderation but it would be a bit helpful for the mods and for the users who submit games.
I never made a game request before, how would I know if someone already submitted one but got rejected? I'm not a psychic. I didn't mean to troll or spam.
Either way, thanks for making things clear... somehow.
timing starts when you first move with Bernard and ends when you press 'why don't your zap Dr. Fred...' dialogue line at the end talk with Purple Tentacle
I understand but I don't see the problem here given the current rules on RTA timing and uncapped FPS. It was bound to happen eventually since without these limitations it's literally anyone's game who can find solutions to speed up their game with better hardware for example. Toriks maybe wanted to have WR and having that advantage but I don't see the blame put on him on rulesets like this, I mean good for him to be honest. I'm coming from the Fallout speedrunning community where you can move way faster if you are not capped so 60 FPS capping was introduced in all of the 3D fallout games pretty early on (in 2014/5 i think). Also loadless timing became a thing the same period. Ever since then we don't have any problems in debates of runs on better hardware or runs on shitty PCs. I think it would be a fairly fair solution to this.
Having your FPS capped and implementing (or just using it, since it is already implemented apparently) timing without loads would be a reasonable solution to all of this. It's something very common in other PC runs and I don't really get why it wasn't implemented years ago to tell you the truth. It's not really rocket science.
Also calling out someone on 'having malicious intents' on beating a WR by having a better PC on a leaderboard using RTA and uncapped FPS just seems dishonest, childish, unnecessary and unreasonable.
you can actually hold the period button and it buffers the inputs so you can skip dialogues almost instantly. try that.
there is a glitch guide for the run made by Mud. I recommend watching it even though these strats don't save much time. Also the WR run is pretty much optimized. You can try to find a better route but a bunch of time was invested in it over the years so it's pretty solid.
https://www.speedrun.com/day_of_the_tentacle_remastered/guide/40bx6 I made a text guide for the remastered version, it's slightly different from the current WR route but I'd say 90% of it is still the same. So you can check this out as well.
Well, if you need a reference for rules, we just added a glitchless category to Fallout 3, that contains the glitches not allowed, also cap your frame rate at 60 fps, restart the game at every reset etc.
My idea is that try to do runs, see how these rules are applicable, if any particular question comes up just ask us. It's your run, it's your idea, just have fun with it, make route notes, do test runs. On a sidenote, seeing the history if glitchless categories on sr.com in this game, I don't think they will be added soon, since there aren't any solid routes, the lack of runners and just the length of the runs itself, in my opinion.
But regarding your original question, yes, I think it wouldn't be fun to do single segment runs especially if they are 6-7 hours long so you can ditch that immediately.
You don't have to apply sr.com rules on categories that are not on sr.com. If you believe that the run is more enjoyable/feasible without that rule then do runs without it, it doesn't have to be a 'single segment' run.
If you are referring to the Single Segment/Glitchless category here then it is stated in the rules that no saves are allowed to be loaded during the run. So you can't use QS/QL at all.
Referring to them as they are glitches or not.. Both of them are pretty unintended. OOB in any game is considered a glitch. Skipping dialogue is not a mechanic that is generally designed for Fallout: New Vegas so you can call it a glitch i guess.
that is already part of Main Quest - Yes Man (Any%) category (among others), so basically it would be an any% run but you stop at killing Benny. i seriously don't see why that would make sense.
have you picked up Carrington's prototype and dropped it after? I think it usually happens when you forget to drop it
(though im not a mod, so its up to them to decide :) )
not really familiar with the whole route, but in my opinion, this is more like an achievement challenge rather than a time challenge. i mean you can collect all unique weapons in a casual play, it's still fun and glitchless in a way. the speed strats exist to make it faster to get all of them, which makes it a speedrun. though glitchless speedruns sometimes fun, and dont get me wrong.. the idea must be fun but i personally think using speed strats, especially in misc. categories make more sense (speedrun-wise)
thank you very much :) i'll test it.
hey. Since this is a fairly older post I'm wondering if this patch/fix is still necessary for valid runs? I'm fairly similiar with the game/graphics engine so my question is that is it enough to cap my frame rate at 60 fps with software like Dxtory to be able to submit my run? Because I run FNV with Dxtory without speed inconsistency but I'm not sure the speed inconsistency in FO3 occurs because of an uncapped frame rate or not. (at least most of the time)
