Hello fellow Speedrunners, i have a good news for you tonight, i've worked several hours to bring you a complete separation between Original Hardware and Emulations/Virtual console releases.

The Runs done on Steam SEGA collection got updated to PC. Please be sure to verify if your runs are still on the board and if the changes have been made, if not, feel free to message me on the site (Messages are available now on the top right of your screen) so i can change it.

Good luck for the next runs.

I'll just quote their words concerning the situation about your Disney collection from the forum post 2 years ago :

Quote "There is no "right way" to do, it's mostly just whatever the moderators and community members decide is the approach they like best or that works best for them."

So yeah, they decided to separate VC only without separating emu in some cases ( Here : https://www.speedrun.com/dt#Any_Afternoon_Collection ) which is not what i want to do.

The only thing that need to be done is to separate Console from this, then PC should make its way to talk about the steam collection and everything should be EMU/VC.

Example : https://www.speedrun.com/the_revenge_of_shinobi

In your logic this would apply to me and all Emu users cause we play on PC too therefore it's PC. It doesn't make sense, we're not playing a game released on PC, it's a Sega genesis rom played by another emulator.

The only flaw this board have is having OG hardware flirting with Emu. It should be separate. The categories goes normally by this :

  • Category 1 (Original hardware) - Category 2 (All emus/Virtual console.)

Example => SOR1 : https://www.speedrun.com/sor1

This kind of goofy category should be Misc, it's like the other sailor moon game category called Cosplay% this is the kind of category no one will ever run unless it's a meme.

Oh well, i didn't saw that post notification so to clarify the questions in detail :

  • Timers are tools used to serve speedrun and aren't always necessarily forced to be used. In some case a community force the use of a specific timer in order to avoid confusions between RTA/IGT or/and inaccurate IGT. Souls game and other next gen video games also force that script timer cause they time the game without the loadings that can vary from different Hardwares.

  • Second point, a Youtube video is always online there's no thing such as Offline video, if it's not showing then Youtube removed it or blocked it in a country (You can bypass this kind of stuff with a VPN).

Videos can be hidden as Private though, so only the uploader can see it and outside sources such as download websites can't steal them, those must be refused or deleted cause no one can see them, it's marked as private.

However there's another thing that i personally use on my YouTube channel, it's called Unlisted, the video is still visible by everyone who possess the link but it's not shown publicly on the channel this is great for speedruns/tech/glitch/routing archiving, it doesn't bloat your public channel with Thousands of videos.

So a video with no timer can't be refused, you refuse it if it does not meet the timing rules. If the video link is playable on any type of website, like Tube, Niconico, etc... it's also good to go, i do recommend that over twitch too, Twitch player is a pain in the ass so if people can upload a copy on Youtube and post it as a second video link on the site i'd be glad to see it, it's helping me a lot in this case.

Sorry for the big post, i wanted to make it clear and simple.

Cheers, guys !

Hi @Zockerstu

To be honest with you i don't think it's a big problem, emulators will ALWAYS be behind OG hardwares no matter what emu players think, even HD consoles trying to emulate them are still inaccurate but i won't go full mad man style banning or restricting them like some other infamous community does. Separating those is the best thing to do instead. Sometimes you don't have a choice and can't do this other than using emus.

In the case of Sailor moon games i think it's not necessary to separate yet, there's not much people running the game anyway but if it start getting popular for whatever reason then we'll have to change this.

This is my take on this topic, if people vote against it, i won't agree with them but i won't stop them either it's community based and not official stuff, we're just doing this for fun and a lot of people tends to forget that. I just think it'll just further down cut the enjoyment of the set game with too much restrictions.

I contacted Nobleboy on discord and he's also for it and LRock also voiced complains about it during one of his run. I'll make the change tonight.

EDIT : to avoid double post, i did the changes, if there's a run lost in the middle of the separation or a mistake feel free to tell me in the thread, HF.

Hello my fellow Speedrunners, it's about time we do that so let me get straight to the point :

  • Beat 'em ups method of categorizing runs often allow players to use the character they want (according to how different they play in the game and aren't just basic "clone") The difficulty is also a big point in the runs, sometimes we use the easiest and hardest difficulty, some other time we even allow every single one of them depending on how drastically different they are. It had good results overall (Streets of rage 2) but also bad ones when you allow too many (Streets of rage 3)

  • In the case of Final fight 3, the enemies on Expert are more numerous and some of them got more HP but the biggest difference is the AI being really aggro, most of the things you can do on easy gets often punished on Expert making the run incredibly more complex.

Now @huxxny said he acknowledged the differences but you must know, at that time, easy runs weren't good and didn't reached the level of expert run done by Murphy.

So now we clearly see that even a sub 21 is possible on Easy, i propose a community vote to create Sub categories for each characters and routes (including the misc categories) adding Easy and Expert.

  • You can also voice your intent to add the other difficulties such as Normal and Hard if you feel like the game need them.

I do only vote for Easy and Expert, it doesn't seem important to add the rest of the difficulties seeing how close the times are, 25 mins gap between each difficulties so the extreme gap is around 20~25mins which is more relevant.

i'll tag some of the active runners to get a ping to see the thread has been created, @Nobleboy77 @LRock617 @insight @cooney890 @manticor5

Thank you for taking your time to address this subject everyone.

This is a well known glitch since many years ago and the recent runs started to use it. I guess they call that the handshake of doom if i remember right.

In order to access Very easy and Mania you need to input a cheat code :

  • Highlight option mode with the cursor and hold A+B+Start with controller 2.

Well, to be honest it's a big time loss, however it is still a game over after that fight so yeah you can, i'll add this in the rules.

Hello my Speedrun fellas :

The River City Girls page is officially decorated and ready for submissions !

I tried to be as simple as possible, the characters can be selected in the submissions, i've separated co-op for the simple reason that variables can't change the number count of player.

If you have any Questions, suggestions, comments, feel free to post them here, have a good time and keep the streets clean !

Hello @cheekychunk PC isn't a platform to add for the simple reason the game on steam is run on an emulator so your category would be Emu/Virtual console.

Alsace, FranceSm_Izumi4 years ago

Hey @Avelino sorry for the late answer, i wasn't around this board for a while and to be frank with you i do agree that there's a big difference between Easy and Expert mode though i don't recall by memory the HP and damage value being different.

The AI is definitely more agressive and faster making it harder to land infinite on enemy groups for example and there's more enemy spawns (Example Easy 1screen got 9 Expert got 12) etc....

Huxxny however was against separating the difficulties and as far as i know, no runners voiced complains about it so it just stayed that way.

Nice, since my first run i picked on how unfair the whole board was, it needed a change.

For individual characters it sure has a lot of them, the differences are only occurring in the playstation/xbox version who gives max special bar on the start of every fights, this is the only unfair advantage i can see from the versions in solo categories, maybe there's more.

The biggest problem is the all story category who's a mess, all versions got a different way to unlock characters which really penalize people heavily. I tried to point those difference to get separated categories for this, i mean my friend and i was totally on for the arcade version with the code to rush all story mode but when i posted the message they just banned arcade code in the rules and changed nothing.

There's multiple points to that :

  • It doesn't stay true to the originals, far from that, it's a very bad Streets of rage. Decent Fan game but not a good SOR overall and if you start to dissect it, it can even fall into the Bad category.

  • Extensions categories on the site are indeed, Hacks, fan games or special categories such as 100% / No Food / No weapons or whatever silly thing you can do in the game that doesn't belong to the original categories. It's generally used on very popular games that have a big amount of users in order to spice things up like they say. It is a way of changing from the normal speedrun and have some fun but those are created for big games and SOR series fall in the Obscure category.

  • More in depth with SORR, let's just IMAGINE this game got in here, what would be the categories ? You perfectly know how the SOR categories are, they let people play on every possible difficulty, characters and setting possible in order to leave the choice to people. Now take Remake, it has :

  • 2 Versions, 1 Official release and a Fan Patch version (cause the game was a mess on launch)

  • 5 Difficulties, Easy, Normal, Hard, Very hard, Mania

  • Gun option

  • 2 Death Type

  • 3 Jump type

  • 3 Combo type

  • Different meters

  • Weapon type

  • Shop cheat option

  • 12 characters, 18 total with the different versions.

  • 4 Routes that have an insanely stupid amount of shortcuts and different branching leading to 8 endings.

  • Local Coop

  • CPU Coop with different AI choice.

So i let you imagine the number of categories in this freaking Mugen game lol

Galedog got away from speedrun for an undetermined period of time.

I took off my tutos cause this is a mess to keep track on and update however you can still ask for specific loops on Hardest, i can link you videos but i have to know who you're playing.
