Hello. I'm a newbie to the Super Metroid speedrunning community. I'm currently using a Gamecube controller to play Super Metroid on an emulator, as the controls there are more adjusted for arm-pumping and the face buttons are in much more conducive spots for my fingers to go from one to the other. I was just wondering if it would be okay to use the left analog stick, as long as controls on other parts of the controller that aren't going to line up 1-1 with the SNES controller aren't also going to be mapped.

..as someone who used keyboard only i'm sure it's fine. i mean depending on what you use to control the game as long as it doesn't make it easier to play the game compared to a snes controller again i'm sure is fine. ..harder than a snes controller.. again.. yeah. i'm not a moderator for this game.. ..but i have submitted times for this game in the past anyways..

Yes, using an analog stick instead of a dpad is completely fine. GLHF
